Without a certain amount of EDUCATION, training is made very difficult.
You can't train someone for a job by show and tell, they have to understand what is going on, or else you stand there and watch them and make sure they do it right. Might as well do it yourself....
High School should never be considered unfeasible, except for those who are retarded to the point that it is a waste of time.
High School should be mandatory. You graduate, or you get drafted into something like the old reform schools.

If they really had such aspirations they would have stayed in school. Instead, they're hooked on sex, drugs and rap music. Crime and welfare give them an easy out: Little output for larger returns. That's their mindset, not something else. Can it be changed? Yes. But it will take a lot more than sympathy.

High school has not been de rigeur for anybody up until this century; and certainly not for everybody.
Personally, I'm far from persuaded that it "should never be considered unfeasible for anyone", or that the only alternative should be incarceration.
Until the present day, it's never in history been considered appropriate or feasible that all- or even most- young people receive secondary education.
In previous times, kids who didn't want it found positions or apprenticeships for themselves, got married and started having babies, or ran away to war or to sea.

The world may have changed overnight, but that doesn't mean people have.

The fact that they are turned away is an indication of a lack of desire to get educated. It takes some kind of know-how to get paid. Eventually they get old enough to realize they took the easy way out, and that way seldom results in anything to be proud of...
Certainly I have never heard anyone bragging about being second or third generation welfare recipients....

I do agree that most of this is due to laziness or the belief that they can make a better life for themselves without the education. I think more positive incentives to stay in school need to be put out there. And it would be nice to see a few of these celebrities that teenagers look up to stress how important education is.

However, one of my brothers was not allowed to finish his senior year in Mich. because he was 19 when he tried to enroll. He had only been held back one year in elementary school. The school based its policy on the belief that students over 18 are "disruptive". A few of the students may have had the same problem as my brother. Failing one grade in school should not have this big of an affect on a person's future.

I agree with you, but would also offer them the GED test on the spot. If they pass, they graduate immediately.
It could be that the age of adulthood makes the school district wary of them dating the younger girls.
I would also like to see an additional 2 years added to public education, like a choice of 2 years of community college or trade schools.
We shouldn't abandon them to facing life alone at age 18 unless there is a place for them, and often times there is not...
