Gottahurt's argument was easily refuted. His own notion was predicated on indirect and potential benefits. The same can be said of the socialism that you rejected.

We live in a socialized nation. The roads, cops, firefighters and police are all socialized. We derive indirect benefits without usage. The same can be said for welfare systems that maintain levels of health, stability and peace in the underclasses.

Whether you like it or not, every country that is not in Anarchy utilizes some level of socialism. And we need it. The SEC is socialism as our tax dollars go towards protecting investors and the economy.

Thank You. I love people who don't "use" these benefits, but sure enjoy the freedom and protection afforded by them.

The exact same can be said for the socialist welfare you decry.

But people here don't apply their logic and reasoning consistently, often giving their own arguments passes. Double standards seem to be the norm.

Socialism is all about degree. All socialist programs benefit everybody in society, but the degree varies from extremely large and direct to infinitesimal and highly tangential based on your individual situation. The debate comes from weighing the individual or aggregate benefit with the individual or aggregate cost (and each comparison is its own separate issue). It is not a double standard, it is a spectrum, where each case requires individual consideration.

Nope, had you read my posts, you would have seen this statement from me:

"It wouldn't be a "pure" capitalistic society as suggested, we still need the US Government to control certain segments."

I support the need for some socialist programs, I just don't want the US Government to handle them all. I think private industry could do a better job in certain areas.

Of course. I never argued otherwise.

But what is a double standard is GottaHurt's argument. He is claiming that communal use services like Fire/Police/Education are not socialism where welfare is. As you stated, social programs benefit everyone, it only depends on the degree.

Then why did you argue that my positions were in fact not what I stated? You thanked Kernel Sanders for his post which essentially backed up my arguments when you previously tried to tear down. Did you not understand what I was talking about or are you changing your side to the winning one now that you see clearly?

Of course. That does not change the fact that welfare and fire fighters are both socialistic.

McCain has not showed up to vote in the Senate almost 2/3 of the time, and now he is telling people that he is a leader? From what McCain has shown us (not what he is telling us), my bet is that he won't show up to be president either, when the chips are down.

Senate voting records are here.

DOOD! i thought i was supposed to post this and you the obama one!

Oh, my bad, you're pouting because I thanked the Birdman and not you.

Hardly. You didn't thank Birdman. You thanked Sanders who effectively stated my argument was correct. Good job on failing to understand the subject.
