My answer is that he suggested what we're currently doing and it's not working.

Again I can compare this thought process to the Communist fanatics of the last century. Every problem with socialism could be cured with...more socialism.

Republicans take exactly the same attitude with the market. The cure to the markets failures is not more market.

I don't see where it isn't working. I see where we have higher quality health care than anywhere else in the world and we are on the cutting edge of medical technology. When I go to the doctor of my choice and at my convenience, I am totally satisfied with my health care. And when I haven't been, the market lets me choose a different doctor.

The market hasn't failed. Individuals have failed to make the most of the system but that is not an indictment of the system; it's telling of the individual.

The silenced majority

The function of government isn't to protect people from what they shouldn't do to themselves or to be there to do for people what they ought do for themselves.

The problem isn't that people don't have a competitive healthcare market to make choices and seek lower costs from.

The problem is that some people don't actually prioritize their finances properly on their own.


This is something that government has no power to rectify.

If you don't think there's anything wrong with healthcare in America today we really can't have a discussion about it.

There are people in America today who are working as hard as they can to the best of their ability who either don't have healthcare or are dangerously underinsured. If you find that acceptable I can't convince you it's not.

You have to ask yourself why the healthcare market is failing. Which I am sure is what you do. You casually blame the market itself. Really and truthfully, I think there are a few things that if we fixed them, we could have a free market system that is affordable.

1. I hate to admit it, but there needs to be oversight on the relationship between health insurance companies and hospitals. They both are playing **** **** games with each other. Hospitals will overcharge insurance companies for treatment,drugs, etc.(mostly to recoup the losses from treating uninsured folks). This causes the health insurance companies to have to raise premiums.

2. Malpractice lawsuits should be capped at a certain amount depending on the severity of the malpractice. Litigious lawsuits also increase the price of healthcare directly.

3. Give small businesses and individual payers generous tax credits for purchasing group/individual insurance. I would say, credit the tax payer back, the amount they paid in premium for health insurance for the year. In that way, its basically free, since the tax credit is directly taken off the bottom line of your tax liability. But the industry can still make money, profit and employ people and advance.

And you know what, I'd be willing to try any or all of those things.

But there are plenty of Republicans who would "casually" call me a Marxist for doing so.

I want solutions. All I know is what we're doing now is not working. If the market can present a solution, I'll take it, but so far it hasn't. And in Europe the governmetn has presented a solution. I see that as a place to begin.

What's your problem with honest discussion? There are problems with hardworking Americans not having health care. I am addressing that problem in a different way than you are. But instead of having a frank discussion about it, you want to throw around rhetoric placing blame on a system that seems to be working for those who work within it instead of against it.
