How about we get California to first stop sucking up all of the oil, Pelosi?California uses more gas than China.

Pebble Bed reactors can be built in a mere 24 months.
PBMR: Clean, Safe, And Affordable Energy

Plus there's no risk of meltdown due to the low yields.

Pebble Beds + Wind + massive tidal. Heck if we can generate enough electricity, we can catalyze our own oil.

Re: Pelosi stands firm against offshore drilling

Republicans say drill in Alaska. Democrats say drill off shore. Republicans say that won't work. Democrats say that wont work. Over and over and friggin over.
Back and forth all day long on C-Span. The debates were endless. And as usual, only one thing got accomplished. The oil companies continue to get a free ride on the price gouging train.

Am I the only one that see's the real truth in what is going on between the Democrats and Republicans?

FACT: It doesn't matter how much oil is produced. It doesn't matter what part of the USA the oil comes from. The more oil the oil companies get, is just more oil they can refine and charge us $4 per gallon for.
The oil they drill for isn't Americans. It doesn't belong to us or the Federal Government. It's not going to be handed to us in vouchers or coupons. It's going to continue to be owned by the oil companies until we, the American people, pay the over inflated price for it.

All this talk about where to drill is non-sence. Because whether we drill in our own backyard, the oil companies have no reason to give us a break on the price.
And the Market speculator have no reason to speculate a cheaper market price for a barrel of oil. Because no matter if it comes from the USA, Canada, Iran, Mexico or even Saudi Arabia, oil is oil is oil. And it's still over $130 a barrel. And is still about $4 per gallon. (and even higher for deisel)

I've been looking at Pebble beds for quite some time. But Pebble beds to me seem like merely a small step. Thorium is where we need to go aside from Fusion. Especially the fast thorium reactors which can reduce radioactive waste to 1%.

Still, PBR (lol, not the beer) should be enacted. Cheap, no risk of meltdown and uses LEU. What's not to love aside from having to build lots to replace one regular heavy water reactor?

That said, there are terawatts upon terawatts of power in our oceans that we're not harnessing. I'd love to see us harness enough power from the oceans so that nuclear transmutation becomes economically profitable.

and I would love to see OPEC countries begging us to sell them food...
We could be one of the major providers of the OFEC countries, the Food Exporters. Seems to me that $147 a barrel for grain crops would be a fair price.....
I agree 1000%. Great post!

Never heard of these before, but sounds like a good idea. My only concern is to have a fast way to get grids back up if a natural disaster like a hurricane or earthquake hits the reactor, a plan B if you will. But wow, how has the American press missed this, since they are part of the alternative energy movement?

[quote=Reverend_Hellh0und;1057672962]Pelosi stands firm against offshore drilling - International Herald Tribune

Quote:
WASHINGTON: Upon entering Congress in 1987, Representative Nancy Pelosi quickly became part of the solid California front against oil drilling along much of the nation's coast.

The 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill and the steady push to tap the potential reserves off the state's rugged coast had galvanized Californians and made opposition to offshore drilling part of the political DNA of up-and-coming figures like Pelosi.

She repeatedly resisted oil drilling.....

This elitist "C.ant U.nderstand N.ormal T.hinking" ultra liberal congresscritter just does not get it.

I find her using a 1969 spill to keep california and the country dependent on foreign oil borderline treasonous. Not suprised though.

Does she realize that the oil rig technology has improved immensly?

What modern data can she point to for her idiotic reasonings?
Why cant Pelosi stand firm in front of a moving train?
