As for your second point.....that is laughable. If you really think that the wealthy in America got their by elbow grease and sweat.....

Oil will always be in their hands. As long as they control the vast majority of it and as oil is traded on market exchanges, it doesn't really matter what we do. We simply do not have sufficent volume to make the US a price setter.

There is more oil in the rockies alone than in Saudi Arabia. If only the mentally challenged liberals in Congress would let us drill there...

Not really. There has been no actual evidence of speculators deliberately driving up the price of oil. What has been found is that of speculation, the only speculation that has driven up oil are those of financial funds using oil as a hedge against the dollar. These funds range from those on Wall Street to small private universities managing their endowment funds. Increasing supply won't do anything when the reason for their purchases is to hedge against the dollar. They are using oil like gold. Nothing to do with actual consumption of oil.

The dollar is the reason for high prices in a myriad of ways. If you want cheap gas, get Uncle George and Uncle Ben to appreciate the dollar.

The truth hurts. This will hurt the democrats in November, you can count on it.
Again not true. Donaldsutherland in the economics forum went over why gas prices are high, many of the reasons are due to the dollar and several reasons why the dollar is tanking is due to Administration policies. The Administration has open policy to let the dollar slide. As the supply argument has already been refuted, this is in fact caused far more by the Administration then the democrats.

"Strategic"=Emergency. This is not an emergency. The Strait of Hormuz getting blocked by Iran would be an emergency. However, with more drilling on our coasts, we could forecast a sufficient supply to tap those reserves. Right now, it's simply a scapegoat for liberals, a poor one at that.
Can those add 10 million barrels of light sweet crude to the world total volume? If not, coastal drilling is crap. And from what I've read, the US government gets rid of the sour, heavy oil that it gets as royalties from US producers. Not exactly a great way to decrease prices when you produce relatively little and a product that isn't in high demand.

Quote:
Attention will not be diverted. America's pocketbooks will be more full, while working our way off of oil.
They said that during the oil embargo. Looked what happened after that.

You might want to study up on your types of oil a well a geology before making such comments in the future. You've got quite some egg on your face and you don't even know it.

Who says a cartel can`t be broken....besides is it wise to give up on national oil exploration?

Well that is why some people in the administration favored invading Iraq. True, Cartels can be broken up, but they have us now by the throat.

No, but it is foolish to believe we can drill ourselves out of this problem or that we can actually decrease prices in a significant way. At BEST domestic drilling is stalling for time.
