Re: Water-Powered Car Demonstrated in Japan

New Fuel Cell System 'Generates Electricity with Only Water, Air'

...

The basic power generation mechanism of the new system is similar to that of a normal fuel cell, which uses hydrogen as a fuel. According to Genepax, the main feature of the new system is that it uses the company's membrane electrode assembly (MEA), which contains a material capable of breaking down water into hydrogen and oxygen through a chemical reaction.

Though the company did not reveal the details, it "succeeded in adopting a well-known process to produce hydrogen from water to the MEA," said Hirasawa Kiyoshi, the company's president. This process is allegedly similar to the mechanism that produces hydrogen by a reaction of metal hydride and water. But compared with the existing method, the new process is expected to produce hydrogen from water for longer time, the company said.

...

Although the production cost is currently about ¥2,000,000 (US$18,522), it can be reduced to ¥500,000 or lower if Genepax succeeds in mass production. The company believes that its fuel cell system can compete with residential solar cell systems if the cost can be reduced to this level.
This is the same car as in the first post with a little more details in the report.

Re: Water-Powered Car Demonstrated in Japan

I'm not really a science buff, but if this car requires pure water to operate (no additives), then that is a scarce commodity in many parts of the world. It's kind of comparable to the situation with fossil fuels. In the face of a worldwide food shortage, some nations are still growing crops for biofuel. This invention suggests that, in some places, they'd need to choose between drinking water and fuel water.

I know that the end product is still water, but having removed it from the original system it was part of still poses fresh water problems. I'm not sure how practical this invention is.

Intrigued by this and the prospect of a potential of 50% more mpg, I went ahead and bought the books that described how to build the HHO system from water4gas.com. The books are protected from me being able to copy and paste, but regarding the amount of water the car would then run on, it sounds like a whole lot more water is wasted by leaving the shower on overly long or watering the lawn more than you need to. I'll just type out the pertinent bit.

How much water is needed?

Very little. If you use water only (vaporizing the water by slow bubbling it and then sucking it into the engine), a gallon of water would be consumed in about 8 months. If you're using electrolysis to separate it to HHO first, that gallon will be consumed in maybe 3-4 months.
So anyway, I bought a kit and will convert my car within the week. Considering the money I spent on the books and the kit, if I save $400 this year on the extra mileage I'll have broken even, and of course will continue to see those savings in the coming years.

To be honest, though, I'm less irritated by the price of gas than I am of having to refill the tank, so either way I'll be at least a little happier.

Cool, Cardinal and ty for trying it out. Let us know how feasible it is. Is it hassle-free and whether this really works. I am sure we r all curious to know. So $400 to buy kit and books? Any conversion/equipment needed for car? $400 is all u need and that's all? No added costs? I hear some ppl's gas amounts to $100 a mth even so this may be an economical idea if it really works.

Let us know.

Yep, $400 for the package deal. I don't drive a lot, so for a bare minimum of 25% mileage improvement those who drive a lot can be expected to save a bunch more. 50% improvement is the max they advertise, so I'm crossing my fingers.

As for ease of installation? Well, any time some one advertises anything as easy to install, my heartrate jumps. When it's advertised as easy and fast, I take several Xanex. So, we'll see.

Anyway, I'm going down the checklist for upping the mpg, as well as taking it in to the dealership for a checkup. My mileage was abysmal this month.

I learned a couple things from that website. One is that you can increase your mileage by having your tires filled according to car specifications (as opposed to the tire's specifications), and that if you fill your tank in the morning rather than later when it gets hot, the fuel is more compressed and you get more bang for your buck. And of course there's eighteen zillion other things you can do.

Someone once got a mileage of 300mpg, but maintaining that is a little too crackhead for me. Keeping that kind of thing up is like maintaining a six-pack abdomen: it's a full time job.

Yes. In effect, the car runs on batteries.
