Dodging? You've taken one sentence from the paper (a published chapter by well respected academics) and twisted its meaning. You've done that as TABLE 9 doesn't agree with your hope. It is an inane tactic and I'm not going to bite. I'll wait for you to craft a mature comment

No answer then. Pity. I acept your concession.

This paper, like all your cooked stats, is dead on arrival. Care to play again?

Hes full of shiite. Very eloquent shiite but shiite none the less.

In OECD comparisons of 30 countries, the UK lies 17th on low skills, 20th on intermediate and 11th on high skills.... The proportion of people with low or no qualifications is more than double that in Sweden, Japan and Canada.

US is #2 with the other 28 OECD countries having a higher percentage of low skilled workers. Precisely the opposite of his claims. p 10 chart 2.1 ranks all 30 countries fom the lowest percentage of low skilled workers to highest.

Is this a portrait of a super economy?
Government is the Largest Employer: The Fading American Economy

????? The US has a GDP per capita of $46,000 per year, among the highest in the world. And in 1990 18.4% of workers were employed by government. In 2006 16.9% worked for government so I am not sure how you arrived at your conclusions.

He can't answer because he doesn't actually know this material. He's probably a uni student with library access to JSTOR or MUSE.

Your personal attacks really do lack flair. Something to work on perhaps! In the mean time, I'd recommend you read Leuven et al (2004, Explaining international differences in male skill wage differentials by differences in demand and supply of skill, Economic Journal, Vol 114, pp 466-486). This looks at the supply & demand reasoning behind the poor wage performance of US low skilled employees. It finds that it cannot be explained by differences in labour protection. Instead, its due to low skilled labour abundance.

Not another irrelevant economics paper presented to avoid the topic of discussion.

Scucca,

As the economies against which you are comparing the U.S. has become a matter of contention, could you please specify which ones? It would be helpful for purposes of examining the data.

Also, there is no restriction against posting relevant sections of academic papers so long as the amount of content quoted is within the constraints that reasonably define fair use.
