Current Mood: | Global temperatures 'to decrease' BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Global temperatures 'to decrease' Quote: Global temperatures will drop slightly this year as a result of the cooling effect of the La Nina current in the Pacific, UN meteorologists have said.
The World Meteorological Organization's secretary-general, Michel Jarraud, told the BBC it was likely that La Nina would continue into the summer.
This would mean global temperatures have not risen since 1998, prompting some to question climate change theory.
But experts say we are still clearly in a long-term warming trend - and they forecast a new record high temperature within five years
| so the facts say otherwise
but the speculation is still fermenting the hysteria
if the world is warming why has it no done so in the last 10 years

1. This is the La Nina changing, probably due to global warming, plus, temp.s always cool slightly with the El Nina changing.
2. global warming is backed by over 100 years of study and thousands of years of evidence. Yours is only based off the 10 most recent years. |

DeeJay, I want you to name the 5 hottest years on record, and I'll even help you out:
- 1998 was the hottest
- the 4 other years happened in the 21st century.
So tell me, based-on that information alone, how could you come to the conclusion that the world is cooling?

The trend from 10 years shows a cooling, but the overall trend shows a warming. This would lead to the conclusion that, untill further time passes or more evidence shows, that this period of cooling is only a small dip and will warm up overall. |

| Re: Global temperatures 'to decrease' The Hadley Centre sum it up nicely: "A brief look at the graph depicting January global average temperatures reveals large variability in our climate year-on-year, but with an underlying rise over the longer term almost certainly caused by man-made emissions of greenhouse gases...In future, while the trend in global temperatures is predicted to remain upwards, we will continue to see inherent variability of this kind"

The "do nothing" brigade look for any variation to justify their lazy thinking, from volatility in data series to the deliberate use of geographic differences to support misinformation
For vested interests, see if the insurance companies change their stance. They've been more effective than the tree huggers at forcing policy change |

Lean: Independent Gender: | Re: Global temperatures 'to decrease' I have an idea: Lets wait another 40 years before actually examining this phenomenon and then judge whether or not the earth is cooling. 10 years is not good enough to get a trend, but 50, in my mind, is. |
