Tell me, what is your big issue with people who decide to donate their money because they feel that it's a justified cause?
Now tell me, Spin, how do you feel about the corporations who have basically polluted the air that you breathe since probably you were born? Do you feel that they are justified? Do you feel they have that right? | You call my posts rantings, then put up strawmen in it's place.
If people want to donate money towards ethical organizations that ARE developing/using alternative sources of energy, cleaning up the environment, etc. then three cheers for that - that's great.

Nuclear waste is an absolutely minuscule problem. Quote: | The volume of the ultimate high-level waste was indeed very small: the contribution of a family of four using electricity for 20 years is a glass cylinder the size of a cigarette lighter. | Compare that to the amount of pollution produced by traditional coal and gas measures, and it's not even a contest.

Just try to imagine how many US jobs this has created. Then think of the Oil we wont have to buy, the coal we don't have to burn, and the Pollution we never need to deal with.
Seems a No-Brainer to me. It is estimated a 100x100 sq. mile could generate enough electricity to power the western United States.
And more and more states are realizing the potential here: http://www.inhabitat.com/2008/02/25/...izona-in-2011/ |
Solar power is horribly inefficient. Do you realize how big "100X100 sq. mile" is? That's 10,000 square miles. Thats four times as large as Delaware.
I don't know what the current pricing per square foot is for solar panels, but thats 2,787,840,000,000 square feet that would need to be covered. |

My point is that it's foolish to make arguments in the macroscopic sense about the "corporations that are polluting our air" as if these weren't the exact same companies that have so incredibly influenced our lives. From combustion engines to air conditioners to research facilities, we're in the position we're in because of the "corporations that are polluting our air."
If I could choose between having those corporations "polluting" my air since I was born and not having had them at all, I'd stick with what we've got. |

We would not have been able to support a country this large, and it's incredibly unlikely there would be even 1/50th as many people on this continent today. For me, I wouldn't be here because my grandfather would have died of polio. I'd wager that for most people, there is some situation in their past that has made their life possible thanks to a corporation. |
