It is the issue and the premise of this thread, and it is an idiotic premise if there ever was one. Why do you wish to suggest that it is NOT the issue?

I would like to see ONE example where we have to show identification to receive "approval" to do our "daily" activities; just one please. Thank you.

What an absurd premise this one is. It defies logic that anyone can argue that this is how our society works.

It is bizzarre that the issue you argue has anything to do with STANDARDS to receive a valid DRIVERS license.

DHS: REAL ID Proposed Guidelines: Questions & Answers
Quote:
What is a REAL ID license needed for?
The REAL ID Act requires that a REAL ID driver’s license be used for “official purposes,” as defined by DHS. In the proposed rule, DHS is proposing to limit the official purposes of a REAL ID license to those listed by Congress in the law: accessing a Federal facility; boarding Federally-regulated commercial aircraft; and entering nuclear power plants. DHS may consider expanding these official purposes through future rulemakings to maximize the security benefits of REAL ID.
Part of the problem with REAL ID itself is that DHS has so much control over it. As you can see the above is subject to change and very vague. The fact that you trust they won't go to far is not sufficient.

Do you ever fly? I do, they require that you show a VALID drivers license. You cannot leave the country without a PASSPORT.

As someone else posted earlier in the thread:

It's pretty mundane stuff unless you are a conspiracy theory nut I guess. These stricter requirements PROTECT us from people who would come into the country and falsify their documentation. Much like the 9-11 terrorists did with impunity.

It's part of the 9-11 commission recommendations and was voted into law by the 2005 congress.

Yes, the legislators and governors off all these states are conspiracy theory nuts:

Give it a rest. Nobody is buying the Bush propaganda any more.

Re: Mark Sanford Opposes the Real ID

Provided that they actually stick to the exact provisions outlined in the Act, I do not have a problem with it. However, this better not end up like the social security number. This is about the maximum I want the government to be able to go.

The conspiracy nuts are on this and other forums. The States are doing it for economic reasons, they don't want to pay the cost of compliance, NOT because they think Bush is trying to become a fascist dictator; how absurd are you?

Can you ever stay on topic?

This is typical with you but typically uninformed too. It is not George Bush who passes legislation, it is the Congress.

These were part of the recomendations if the 9-11 commission. Are you saying they were a bunch of party hacks?

I think YOU need to give your anti-Bush rants a rest myself. They are filled with distortions, lies and hyperbole.

The following is the HUGE majority of the bi-partisan efforts to pass this bill:

The above is all extremely laudable IF, ah that word IF all persons in the US were honest.
Regretably they are not, similarly in every other country in the entire world.
The Gov., indeed all of us need to know that the bad guys can be esily detected.
A slightly simplistic argument perhaps, but an ID would go some way to protecting this nation, or would you prefer the alternative?
I have no objection to this scheme, indeed I would go further, I would like to see the DNA of every US resident either US born or not also encrypted onto an ID card.
Imagine what that would do to assist crime detection?

It would also go a long way in helping weed out those predisposed to certain traits and illnesses.

Re: Mark Sanford Opposes the Real ID

Two questions:

1) Can someone point out exactly what provisions of Real ID are unconstitutional?

2) Can someone explain exactly what activities you will be barred from doing without a Real ID that you're not already barred from doing without some other form of ID?
