Current Mood: | You knew it was coming: The War on Easter! Oh no the easter bunny is under attack. Some religious people are up in a bunch because some towns in California are calling it a "spring egg hunt" or the "spring bunny". Umm... isn't Easter about the death and then rising of Jesus? So what's the deal with them blasting bunnies and egg hunts for not being Easter-y enough or not having the name Easter in it? That kind of stuff has nothing to do with their religion in the first place. Think Progress Blog Archive John Gibson Hypes A ‘War on Easter’, Announces Easter Bunny Under Attack Quote:
This year, John Gibson is carrying the “War on Easter” mantra, hailing it today as “an incredible development.
GIBSON: You might call it the War on Easter. Ever heard of the spring bunny? What about the spring egg hunt? Well that is what several California towns are calling what used to be the Easter bunny and the Easter egg hunt. Now there’s an objection coming from somebody in Walnut Creek, California, a suburb of San Francisco.
The question is why does the word Easter have to be expunged? Is this political correctness gone too far?

VERNAL EQUINOX March 20 / 21:
The celebration of the Vernal (Spring) Equinox. Day & Night are equal length. It is a time for planting and celebrating the first signs of fertility and rebirth. Symbols of Ostara like eggs, chicks, and rabbits have been adopted by Christians in their Easter holiday. The word, Easter is from the goddess Eostra, Ishtar or Astarte.
| This is where Easter came from anyway, Christians just played Copy Cat like they did with X-Mas.

Current Mood: | Re: You knew it was coming: The War on Easter! It's laughable, but yes, the Rupert Murdoch schills tried to accuse those horrid "Liberals" of stealing Easter, too. This was just a bit too much even for poleaxed FOX SPEWS viewers. The Right will go to any length to polarize Americans because a divided America serves the interests of the Corporate roluers.

As Tecoyah said, Easter was originally a pagan holiday, which the early church incorporated to try to convert more people. The whole "easter bunny" thing takes away from what we are supposed to be celebrating.

Ah, all thats gonna do is take all the nice candy away from the little kiddys.
I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it goes side by side with celebrating the real reason for Easter.
These chocolate easter eggs are soooooo good! I'm gonna have a few more!

Nick, but most people do agree that Christmas is becoming too materailistic. And when people say that the spirit of Christmas is giving, they often mean giving gifts to each other. WRONG. It is in the sense of God giving us his Son and making him Man.
But getting back to Easter, I think that it is time for the Church to update. There aren't many more pagans to convert, so what is the point of having Easter celebrated the way it is? |
