Re: Obama's speech

As a voter for McCain I now know his opponent will be Obama. A rare speech indeed. William Jennings Bryant, step aside Obma is one historic orator. After all as long as America does not drag itself through another four years of Clintonism I would be happy with Family Guy.

Thanks for your input. I am biased, so it's good to read your point of view. Although I must point out that while I am biased, I think I can be objective in some circumstances. I wanted to hear/read a speech that immediately appealed to me (i.e., I didn't have to convince myself that I liked it). As I read this, I got goosebumps several times.

Re: Obama's speech

Quite a speech indeed. I can understand and believe in his desire to unite the country. I continue to have no problems with Barack Obama's character.

Still not going to vote for him though. Although I can appreciate his skills as a orator, and I believe he is genuine in his desires for a better America, I cannot agree with the way he seeks to acheive that better America.

Re: Obama's speech

I'm not going to vote for him either but he has removed the doubts I had about his character and personal beliefs about the nature of this nation. Its a shame that he associated himself with this guy for so long. It may cost him the presidency.

He still is. That will cost him.

He said everything his supporters want to hear. Great Charisma etc. However he in that speech made a lame excuse for supporting a racist and a racist church.

You wanted him to do the politically safe thing so you could attack him for being politically safe huh?

If he said in that speech "I have left that church as it no longer follows my christian values" I would have applauded him.

I don't agree. This speech was not an excuse, but an explanation. I accept his explanation but I was never going to vote for him and this speech, which I think is one of the most important speeches on race made in America since the days of Dr King, is not going to change my mind. My differences with Obama have to do with his liberal politics. He has quelled the doubts that were growing in my mind about the content of his character.
