Ambushed by fighters of the Mahdi army, the soldiers of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment attacked with everything they had, from bayonets to tank shells.

If allegations made yesterday are true, the battle on May 14 2004 also led to the torture and execution of up to 20 Iraqi civilians, some of whom were mutilated before they died. It may be that British soldiers and officers covered up "one of the most atrocious episodes in British army history," lawyer Martyn Day said yesterday.

These war criminals deserve a harsh punishment. I only hope that one of the bigger fishes will be eventually caught.

Shiner admitted that much of the evidence relied on the interpretation of what the five Iraqis heard while blindfolded. No postmortem examinations had taken place on the bodies of the 20 dead men. But on the basis of the evidence he believed his clients were telling the truth.

"Accused" is the key word to all such Stalinists calling for the heads of the brave Brits. What, no decapitations?! Oh, that's right, that's what the gutless Iraqi's do to innocent captured civilians especailly back in 2004. 2004? I thought it as 2008 yet this surfaces here now? The article says the Brits were ambushed. Now as I understnad it the the thing to do when you are ambushed is to return fire and take out the targets. The results were "gunshots to the chest", "sevfral gunshots to the bodies", "gunshots to the heads", "breaking a jaw" How horrible! Oh, the humanity. What demons those Brits must be. Anyone ever see the enemy dressed in uniforms? civilians look and dress just like them don't they? Give all the Brits medals for job well done and feed the "civilian"corpses to the local rats.
