I don't intend to derail threads. I just see connections and believe that it's important to point them out to others. I am frequently disappointed when others don't see these connections on their own. So I let my little light shine instead of cursing the rigidity of DP thread protocol.

Why is it too not only is he portrayed that way but in most churches, Catholic at least, they have statues of him striking some weird pose. Like in my old church I went to, at the top of the alter they had him on the cross with Roman soldiers around him poking him with swords, then they had various statues of him spread out always looking like he was in pain or with blood dripping from his body. It always freaked me out as a kid.
I prefer the Jesus RightInNYC posted, that Jesus is hot and I would probably have been more interested in church then.

I could care less what the skin color of Jesus is.I believe the reasons why artist painted a white Jesus instead of a middle eastern Jesus is the artist were white and didn't put much thought into his race,not much thought went into the race of Jesus when the picture was being painted, maybe some of the artist were racist or marketing by the churches to lure more people with a Jesus that looked like them or a combination of all the above.

Yeah I've always wondered why Christian artists aren't big on accuracy in their paintings. Even some of the masters seem to be way off in their depictions of Jesus being some muscular white guy. Personally if he was a white guy I'd have no problem but even if I were to put that aside.....Jesus with muscles? The guy lived in the 1st century. What are the chances of the average poor man having a fully formed 6 pack or for that matter having some real weight on him?
