Re: Mexicans

Interesting how this thread has gravitated towards economics.

I would like to take this opportunity to weigh in if I may....

The illegal alien issue is an economic concern for many. The survival of businesses and communities should be the concern of all. Several times I have watched activists on the news stating that "America is being carried on the backs of illegals" and recently, in Oregon, a new law taking effect in February concerning issuance of drivers licenses has caused an uproar in the illegal communities. Their position from interviews appears to declare that it is their "right" to have a license and they should not be required to prove citizenship or legal residency to have a drivers license. An obviously untenable position at the basest and at direct conflict with the reality that a drivers license is a privilege not a right, as is immigrating to this nation.

If a resident, legal or illegal, of this nation refuses to learn English my question would be why? If they choose to reside (segregate) in communities comprised of other same-speaking illegals, and their benefactors then that is their choice. Our nation should not be required to pander to their linguistic, socio or economic needs based on the fact that they are here illegally and should be held criminally liable.

Our culture is predominantly English speaking. Albeit comprised of all ethnicities, doesn't it strike anyone else as rather hypocritical that the only other language beside English we see posted in public venues is Spanish? If indeed we were just reaching out to those who don't speak English then shouldn't there also be postings in every other language?

I know this seems like quite a rant and hopefully is not too fractured, and if so I apologize. Let me define for the other posters and readers my main concerns;

1) The United States is a sovereign nation and as such has the right to protect our borders, and states, from those who would enter illegally. This planet is not a global village and is comprised of hundreds of sovereign nations. We should respect each nations right to self-governance.

2) There is a rule of law in the U. S. that defines how one may immigrate or visit this nation. Much the same as all other nations. Mexico included. Those who disobey that law are criminals. Period.

3) And finally respect. Respect our nation, our culture, our peoples by NOT illegally entering our country. When someone does it is a disrespectful act not only against our sovereignty and the rule of law but a slap in the face Americans and those who have come before them who have chosen to follow the rule of law and enter legally.

In closing I am not willing to acquiesce to the agenda of those who would destroy our sovereignty, our rule of law and the necessity of respect for our nation, culture and peoples by other nations and peoples. No matter the spin that is put on their arguments decrying the plight of those who come here illegally and I will speak out against them at all opportunities.

Because it's kind of unreasonable to expect anyone over the age of ten to stand in front of a cash register and deal with the public eight hours a day, for a take-home pay of about thirty dollars a day.
Who can afford to waste time that way? You'd make more money in an hour of standing on the shoulder of the highway holding a sign.
Minimum wage is an entirely different topic. However, I believe it should only be applied to teenagers who are still in school. Dropouts should get less until they turn 18.....then they can get minimum wage.
If they are too stupid to get a simple sandwich order right, they deserve to be underpaid.
The more you make it easier for American kids to get by with no education, the sooner the nation will fall behind China, Korea, Mexico, etc....

And finally respect. Respect our nation, our culture, our peoples by NOT illegally entering our country.
Honey, respect doesn't fill a child's belly when he's crying from hunger.
Ideals like respect are always going to take a distant second place to feeding one's family.
That's why these people are here. To take care of their families and make a safe place for them in the world.
Not to thumb their noses at you, or at America in general, or at legal immigrants, or at anyone else.
They're here because the situation in their country of origin is desperate.
Until people like you can start to get a handle on that concept, I wouldn't expect to see the situation improve much.

I get that totally but if you want social cohesion you need people to be able to talk to each other.

People like me...sad to see you resort to such puerile comment.

*sigh*

Nevertheless, even with our disagreement, we as a nation must come to the realization that illegal aliens are burdening our own nation with their very presence and by such their conduct must neither be explicitly or implicitly supported. They must understand that their illegal behavior is unconsciounable and will not be tolerated at either the governmental level or among our communities.

Why? Because I considered one of your comments childish?

Mexico has ample resources to feed its people, but the wealth is not equally shared. They have oil, and a lot of the jobs that used to be in the USA, but still the government ignores the plight of its people.
They need a revolution.....

Well then, perhaps we should consider assisting our next door neighbors to the South, before worrying about throwing a billion dollars a day down the toilet in Iraq and Afghanistan.
