Colleges and universities are certainly liberal havens. Just as NYC, San Fran, most of Massachusetts, etc. I believe how one thinks can be influenced by where they live, how they were raised, and even where they work. UAW for example certainly indoctrinates it's members for the left.

The vast majority of city dwellers can't afford to buy their own home at today's prices.

A fair amount of evangelicals aren't conservatives and the vast majority of conservatives aren't evangelicals. There's no doubt that right brain people such as artists, writers and entertainers are almost always on the far left. You have to wonder which occupations are filled with conservatives. Maybe it's scientists and engineers. I don't know. It's just a theory. I'd like to learn more.

The neocons are for the war more than the true conservatives are. Whether or not this war was worth the cost has yet to be determined. Let's not go off on a tangent and debate the war. The war is just one of many issues. Let's talk about social programs. Many people are in favor Head Start because it feeds kids. Obviously feeding kids sounds like a good idea, but how many of the people who favor it ever ask how much it costs? Ditto for funding the arts, PBS and many other things. OTOH, when you talk about B2 bombers, the cost is always a major component of the debate.

I have to give credit to the Democrats for being fiscally responsible in recent years. They've been more responsible than the Republicans lately.

As far as poor people are concerned, liberals don't have a monopoly on compassion. The core values of conservatives aren't that much different. Conservatives believe that a rising tide raises all boats, while liberals are more focused on redistribution of wealth. You're right to some degree. Conservatives don't believe that everyone should necessarily have the same wealth. Have you ever seen that humorous description of political parties and various forms of government? It starts with "You have two cows and you neighbor has none.". The communist says that the government should confiscate both cows and sell you the milk. The socialist says you have to give one of the cows to your neighbor. The Republican says "Yeah, so?". It's not simply a matter of greed. It's also about what's best for the health of the economy.

Have you heard of the story of the leather-pants salesman who's car broke down?

So he walks and walks and walks...and then he ends up at a farm. He knocks on the door and the farmer answers...He tells him the situation and the farmer allows him to sleep in the barn for one night. But there are three holes in the wall and the farmer warns him, "just do not stick your dick in those holes".
So he goes to sleep, but has trouble sleeping on the hay...he wakes up in the middle of the night, and the temptation arises...He eventually decides to go for one of the holes. It feels nice. He goes for the second hole...even better than before. And when he reaches the third hole He cries in pain but cannot pull out. The farmer hears him and comes into the barn. "I warned you he said". "Behind the first hole was my wife". "Behind the second was my daughter". "but behind the third hole was A MILKING MACHINE THAT DOESN'T STOP UNTIL IT GETS 50 GALLONS!!!

You see...with liberal arts spending...it may feel good at first - but it will turn out to be that agonizing 3rd hole.
