Democrats cut 'John Doe' provision

Quote:
Congressional Democrats today failed to include a provision in homeland security legislation that would protect the public from being sued for reporting suspicious behavior that may lead to a terrorist attack, according to House Republican leaders.

"This is a slap in the face of good citizens who do their patriotic duty and come forward, and it caves in to radical Islamists," said Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Republicans wanted the provision included in final legislation, crafted yesterday during a House and Senate conference committee, that will implement final recommendations from the September 11 commission.
Quote:
"Democrats are trying to find any technical excuse to keep immunity out of the language of the bill to protect citizens, who in good faith, report suspicious activity to police or law enforcement," Mr. King said. "I don't see how you can have a homeland security bill without protecting people who come forward to report suspicious activity."

So you think that every time terrorist activity is reported by citizens that it is legit? Don't you think that this could be abused by people? How exactly is that aiding and abetting terrorists? I swear, some of the crap that people like you spew is beyond absurd. You throw around words like "treason", "traitor" and "terrorist" like cheap candy.

People should be allowed to yell "terrorist" anytime they wish? At anyone? Even if their accusations have no merit? Without consequence?

---------

This is basically what this bill is trying to do.

"Thought Criminal!" or how about "Goldstein!"

I guess the only way to defeat terrorism is to be suspicious of everyone. Sh!t, your family pediatrician might be a TERRORIST. Oh snap, save us Rudy!

Lets all start spying on each other, and not trusting our neighbors. Let us be quick to jump to conclusions about suspected behavior. I mean why can't we label citizens "enemy combatants"?

Lets all act really scared, just like the terrorists want us to. Lets also stop being as free, so we don't piss em off

I love how partisan hacks such as yourself rely so much on oversimplified reasoning.

So not buying into an "end's justify the means" foreign policy means you're helping the terrorists? You cannot be opposed to a policy without aiding our enemies?

Must every draconian and authoritarian law be passed without dissent?

You're position that dissent is unpatriotic, or that not doing everything imaginable against our enemies is the same as helping them, is utterly ridiculous and without logic or thought.

Do you know what a false dichotomy is? Supporting every mission this administration thinks up, and supporting the troops being dichotomous is a huge one. But its just funny to proclaim your logical fallacy in your signature every post.

I haven't heard of much citizen reporting of terrorist activity since 9/11, have you? Could it be abused by people? Well, yes it could. Just like the freedoms we enjoyed before 9/11 that were abused by 19 people that took those freedoms and killed 3,000 people and ruined how many other peoples lives? If the "treason, traitor and terrorist" shoe fits, wear it, crap for brains.

Well, if Michael Moore can yell whatever bull **** he wants anytime he wishes at anyone even if the accusations have no merit without consequence AND make money without being sued then the rest of us should be able to do the same. Don't you think?
