Although I blame both sides of the aisle for Iraq, the irrefutable fact is the GOP paid dearly for following the leader in these past mid-terms. They were held accountable for their actions by the majority of Americans. They even tried to cheat in that election too, but underestimated the level of opposition to this war by the American people.
With every pro-war republican
(except 2) losing their jobs, this country made it clear to its leaders this war must end NOW. We don't want surges, rhetoric, analysis and more lies coming out of Washington and our media continuing to admire the emporers new clothes.
I said it before the elections in '06, and I say it now before the ones in '08, the GOP is dead in the water. But do you think they get it?

Will Bush pull out to save GOP?

It is natural to assume, in these waning and war-scarred days of his presidency, George W. Bush is considering the similar predicament of a predecessor, Richard Nixon, as he faces decisions about Iraq. The president should consider that Nixon's Vietnam pullout led to the deaths of more than 2 million Cambodians. An Iraq withdrawal could cost even more lives.
On the other hand, the beginning of a withdrawal by President Bush could save the Republican Party in 2008 by removing Iraq from the campaign. He could still help the effort by pointing to the war against terrorism and the healthy U.S. economy. |
