Current Mood: | Bush called out for his earmarks The Democrats promised to end earmarks, and are not living up to that promise. Bush is calling them out on it, saying that bills need to be passed without pork. That's fine and dandy, until you find out that many earmarks inserted into bills are at the request of Bush himself.
1) The Democrats need to be called to account for breaking their promise to the American people.
AND
2) Bush needs to be called to account for his unmitigated hypocrisy, and also acting like a Democrat while condemning them.
This issue knows no party. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, you need to hold your own party accountable. Otherwise, its just dishonesty as usual for both pigs-in-the-trough parties.
Don't be partisan about this. Both parties are responsible. I honestly hope that the discussion here will consist of more outrage than oinking from the partisans of both parties. Article is here.

Current Mood: | Re: Bush called out for his earmarks I doubt earmarks will ever go away. The reason is that they are a very powerful political tool. It's how a congressman brings home the bacon to his constituents. Sure they will be scrutinized more severely, but they will never go away.
Most large public safety initiatives are earmarks. Many public safety programs are fed dollars through the earmark/appropriations bill mechanism.

What were Bush's earmarks? There's a huge diffence between legitimate earmarks and pork and considering that Bush is the President and not a state rep or senator how could he possibly have called for pork? |
