Why They Fight
American troops don't want to abandon the Iraqi people.

"................................While in Baghdad, I spoke with many soldiers about the current situation and the effect of the American political debate on their lives and actions. Though their views, like those of American civilians, span the spectrum of possible opinions, most of the troops I met had one thing in common: an understanding that the Iraqis need our help--at least in the near term. "'It would be a disaster if you leave now'," said Lt. Colonel James Crider, Squadron commander of the 1-4 Cavalry ("Quarter Cav"). "I've had several Iraqis tell me that. They want us here--not forever, but for now, until they can take care of themselves."
"I had people coming up to me as we patrolled the neighborhoods saying, 'We heard you were leaving!'" another officer with Quarter Cav told me. "They don't understand our process; they don't know that this is just rhetoric, or that it will be vetoed. All they know is that the leaders of our Congress said that it's a lost cause, and that our government has voted to pick up and go home................................."

This is the real question that should be asked to our Troops:
Would they rather be in Iraq OR home with their familys?

ASk them straight out. That would be the only thing that I would believe. And NOT just a couple of our Troops, ask many of them.

As far as I am concerned everything that is posted about what our Troops are saying doesn't mean anything.

Perhaps foreign policy should be set by the soldiers already on the ground in future. Since what they happen to think is so important. Plus we all know that soldiers on the ground are the most independent objective voice you can find dont we?

Ahh so they should just shut up then. How dare they tell you what is really going on. Why don't you want to hear about what is really going on over there?

Well since you ask me.

Because Ive been over there and on quite a few other campaigns. From these tours I know that the least objective voice is that of the soldier. Why? Because objectivity is of little use to the fighting soldier.

What do you think our Troops would choose?:
~~~
A- Being home with their familys.
B- Stay in Iraq.

Of course not. They can say what they like. But their views should be taken with a dose of salt.

If I wanted to get their real views however Id perhaps wait til theyd returned from tour and ask them their views within theeir own homes when they're no longer 'on mission'.

Since you state your location as being Scotland, does that mean you are not an American but a Scot?
