Current Mood: | Oregon governor signs gay rights bills SALEM, Ore. - Calling it a "truly historic day" for Oregon, Gov. Ted Kulongoski on Wednesday signed bills to give gays and lesbians most of the benefits of marriage under state law and to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation.
With several hundred gay rights supporters looking on, Kulongoski signed measures stymied for more than 30 years in the Legislature but recently approved by the House and Senate.
Kulongoski, a strong backer of both measures, said they would "transform our state from one of exclusion to one of complete inclusion." Oregon governor signs gay rights bills - Politics - MSNBC.com

Great news! It's the wave of the future. As old farts die off this sort of legislation will be far easier to pass once and for all. Polls show that a very strong majority of people under 35 are pro-Gay rights.
Very good news indeed! |

Oregon now is one of 18 states with laws banning discrimination based on sexual orientation.
| Go Oregon! You've finally acknowledged the rights of human beings regardless of their sexuality! I don't know whats sadder. That in 2007 there are people who refuse to acknowledge that gay people are just like everybody else. Or that in 2007 there are only 18 states that have laws banning discrimination based on sexual orientation. Says a lot for how far we've come indeed.

Current Mood: | Re: Oregon governor signs gay rights bills It is good news...........All states should approve civil unions or domestic partnerships............Oregon does a have constituional amendment banning gay marriage that was approved by a huge majority and that does not change..........
Everyone should have the same rights though...

While I am happy to hear you say this....we know from your history of anti-gay posts on these boards that it is a hollow statement.
Its kind of like you are able to hold your nose and be gracious to a gay person...but behind closed doors...sitting behind your computer screen, your true sentiment comes out. Personally...I would prefer for people to be honest upfront...at least that way you really know what you are dealing with.
