Disgusting coward........ FOXNews.com - Reid: Someone Tell Bush the War in Iraq is Lost - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday said the war in Iraq is lost militarily and "can only be won diplomatically, politically and economically" after more than four years of fighting.
"Now I believe, myself, that the secretary of state, the secretary of defense and you have to make your own decision as to what the president knows: that this war is lost, that the surge is not accomplishing anything," Reid, D-Nev., told reporters.
Repeating remarks he made to President Bush during a meeting of congressional leaders at the White House, Reid said the president is hearing only from people who are backing up his view of the war.
"I know I was the odd guy out yesterday at the White House, but I at least told him what he needs to hear. … I told George Bush what he needs to hear, not what he wants to hear, I did that and my conscience is great," said Reid, who was one of several lawmakers who met with the president on Wednesday at the White House. Reid added that more people need to tell Bush

Current Mood: | Re: Reid: Someone Tell Bush the War in Iraq is Lost Reid shouldn't be spouting these things. If his concerns are true and not at all partisan, there was no need to trumpet it like that. He should work toward getting others to urge the President to work on a solution together, and I'm sure he has enough pull that he doesn't have to communicate with other politicians via TV.
Now, due in part to political grandstanding like this and the administrations own failures, from our perspective, whether you're for or against the war, it's obvious that this has become a disaster for our country. Whether or not America is winning there, there exists on our own soil a fight just as bitter and extremely divisive. Neither side of the political spectrum are serving their constituents and are doing a disservice to all Americans.
If Bush is indeed correct in waging this war -which I do agree action needed to be taken, in the face of numerous hostilities- he's doing an awful job of uniting this country to the cause. It's solely up to him to convince everyone, from opposing party members to the American people, that what he's doing is correct.
It's a forgone conclusion that it's not going to happen and a for country so obviously averse to unity, the outlook is bleak. Through untruths and misinformation and an obvious lack of trust in American intellect, he's single handedly hung his own credibility from a rope.
This problem is not going to be solved by this administration, which Bush himself has said; it's a generational struggle. But by rushing forward, he has assured his successor the unenviable task of working with his hands tied with a negative public opinion of a very real war.
But with people like Reid and Clinton being the face of political leaders, I think it's safe to say we can't expect much better from the next administration. American politics is no longer about America citizens.

I think that we will see the two party system however for at least a few more elections, unfortunately, it will take the country to polarize hard to one of the extremes before Americans demand that our politicians start correctly interpreting the constitution and legislating as such I'm afraid to say, I think it will happen, but it will take a little while.

Our troops are not idiots. They are well aware that the war is a mess. Most know that it's a waste of their time/lives, etc. It doesn't amaze me that anyone would describe the war as lost. It amazes me that anyone would dispute that obvious fact at the expense of the lives of our soldiers. |
