MSNBC Drops Imus Simulcast Amid Furor
Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) - MSNBC said Wednesday it will drop its simulcast of the "Imus in the Morning" radio program, responding to growing outrage about the radio host's racial slur against the Rutgers women's basketball team.

"This decision comes as a result of an ongoing review process, which initially included the announcement of a suspension. It also takes into account many conversations with our own employees," NBC news said in a statement.
The announcement also was made on air. Talk-show host Don Imus triggered the uproar on his April 4 show, when he referred to the mostly black Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." His comments have been widely denounced by civil rights and women's groups.
I was going to add this to the original thread, but figured this one would focus on the firing rather than the words said by him
there were varying positions regarding what would be the consequences for this nimrod
and now we are seeing the start of it
I am not surprised that they dumped him

It's not surprising, and it's MSNBC's call. I think some of the backlash from this is a bit melodramatic, but I've always said it's up to the companies he works for to decide a course of action.

true, but do you think he will return on another network/station like so many others who have been fired for their mouths, and than rehired for that same mouth
or will he not try to return until he is dropped from radio as well, for a fresh start so to speak?

funny thing is, his wife is releasing a book on Green house cleaning this week.
Good luck with the Publicity tour to push that book

It's possible that someone else will hire him, up to the company. I don't think anyone should be ruined for making stupid comments. Of course, I think the reaction should have been to note that the guy was being stupid and go on with your day. But it wasn't, it was as it was and the controversy behind this will die down and then he'll probably get hired on somewhere else. With luck, he will have learned a lesson without being forced to go to PC reeducation camp...which was where I was sure this was heading.

If he's bringing unwanted publicity for his bosses. Then it's up to his bosses to decide. The liberal left didn't fire him. Al Sharpton didn't fire him. His bosses did.
