Moments after White House Press Secretary Tony Snow's new personal battle against cancer became public yesterday, a vicious assault was launched at left-leaning websites, with some message posters hoping for a swift death for the presidential spokesman.

"Under the heading of 'What goes around comes around', the cancer in Tony Snow is removing the cancer of Tony Snow from the national scene," wrote TDoff on the D.C. gossip site Wonkette.com.

Omnilation wrote, "Dear Tony, I hate you. -God."

A contributor called homofascist stated, "It is a bitch that I wouldn't wish upon even a smarmy, evil f---face liar like Snow. Because really, isn't he OUR smarmy, evil f---face liar?"

I will be looking to see how many of you Liberals condemn this but I won't hold my breath........

This didn't take very long. I am not supporting what these people said and I find it despicable. However, neither side of the aisle has a monopoly on poor taste and vile rhetoric.

The Free Republic conservatives have a mudslinging contest with Edwards cancer announcement.

I read a half dozen of those posts and its true they are not tasteful but I did not see any that wished Mrs Edwards to die......

I have said many times that I am sorry about what is happening with Mrs Edwards and I am praying for her but with my skepticism with ambulance chasers and trial lawyers the decision for Edwards to continue on has to be at least questioned....

I am no big Katie Couric fan but I have to give her credit for the hard questions she asked the Edwards on 60 minutes...........

And the moral of the story is that this hardship for either party is not a partisan issue but a human issue. Any attempt to translate a person's pain into political capital is abhorrent and inexcusable. That goes for both sides.
