Well I'm not rich enough to have my house pimped out and I'm also not wealthy enough to buy "carbon offsets" everytime I'm a bad girl so the comparison is just not fair.

Actually it's really easy. Buy carbon offsets for the Amazon rain forest. They're about 0.09 cents a pop. Think of it. You can have 11 trees planted for under a dollar. I know it doesn't sound like much but say you give even $10 up every month. Thats 110 trees a month. 1320 a year.

Well I'd have to be convinced that trees were really being planted. Got a link where I could do some research? I've heard some critics claim the carbon offsets are bull$hit.

Also the easiest way is to volunteer to plant the trees yourself. Theres probably some kind of tree planting program in your state. They had a program here for it. I forgot the name I'll have to look it up again

I'd say read the David Suzuki page first.

That is a good deal. Years ago, I used to solicit donations for the JNF, for planting trees in Israel. Those trees went for $18.00 a pop.

The problem with Carbon Offsets

Quote:
Hence, when the carbon offset companies claim that an activity generating 1100 kg (1.1 ton) of CO2 can be made carbon neutral by purchasing 1 tree, the activity is first carbon neutral after at least 88 years (1100 kg / 12.5 kg per year )- assuming that the tree survives that long.

We therefore have a delay before the carbon neutral state is achieved. If the activity generating 1100 kg of CO2 is repeated the following year and another tree planted, and so on, we actually find that there over a 100 year period is a net gain of CO2. Carbon emissions will continue to rise because the trees are unable to keep up with the level of emissions.

Carbon-info.org has developed a model that illustrates this point. If a person produces 1100 kg of CO2 each year during a 100 year period, and each year purchases a tree (as calculated by carbon offset companies) to absorb the carbon dioxide, there will actually over the 100 year period be a net gain of 52.1 tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Not exactly carbon neutral!

You people are suckers if you believe that crap, Gore's on the same power grid as everyone else in Tennessee, what did you think they had a special wire linked to the windmill sending power directly to his house?

Re: Gore Responds To Drudge’s Latest Hysterics

If the environmentalist uses nothing but green energy, he isn’t harming the environment.

If he consumes massive amounts of expensive electricity, he is dumping massive amounts of his money into Green businesses.

If those green businesses flourish, it makes it easier/cheaper/more likely for other people to consume from them.

How is this anything but a laudable example of someone practicing what he preaches?

I think I'd like him less if he didn't use so much environmentally friendly electricity.

Saying that he buys too much electricity and that it should be divided among 19 other families is communist, you pinkos. If you don't like capitalism, get the hell out of America.

Gee, all this time, I was operating under the delusion that electricity is kind of a communal resource. Companies constantly making more and dump it into the collective pool, and individuals taking out what they need and paying a particular company for the cost it took them to make that much electricity.

Re: Gore Responds To Drudge’s Latest Hysterics

I see the fake conservative is once again coming to the rescue of a liberal....I wonder why a so called conservative would lie and make excuses for someone like Gore who is a radical- liberal? Hmmmmm.....could it be because this so called conservative is nothing but a liar claiming to be a conservative while in truth a liberal all along?

The gig is up buddy boy.....you take up the liberal stance on too many issues to be a conservative......no one believes you to be even a moderate conservative so you need to stop being ashamed of the title liberal and admit what you really are.......its not hard........
