Saraya al-Quds, a militant wing of the Islamic Jihad, said Palestinian Mohammed al-Siksik, 21, undertook today's attack. The group said the bombing was carried out jointly with the armed wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction.

This is a terrible crime. He spent seven months to prepare for it, so there probably were people who knew about it for seven months and had a lot of time to do something to stop him, but they did nothing.

These people who knew about it and did nothing, are guilty, too.

This is awful and pointless. In fact the only reason I can think of for this to occur is to undermine the possibility of peace. I agree, Volker; someone or someones knew. I'd like to see the Palestinian government or Palestinians in general speak out, publicly, against this act. That would go a long way towards helping the possibility of peace.

An additional thought. When Israel responds to this, anyone want to bet that the Palestinians will complain about the response without condemning the initial behavior, and many in the world will condemn Israel for it's response. I hope I'm wrong. I hope that an Israeli response is prevented by decisive Palestinian action. I hope that Palestinians in general condemn this. I hope that the condemnation is honest and I hope that, if it is, it and Palestinian action tempers the Israeli response. A lot to hope for.

I'm starting to think that all my arguing for peace is a futile effort. How can there be peace when horrors like this happen without provocation? How can there be peace when the Palestinian government itself is dedicated to Israeli destruction? Very sad.
