Current Mood: | Homicide Rates Higher in States with More Guns at Home I always knew there was a good reason for my mother to ban and forbid all types of guns in our household, why, my mother would not allow us to even play with toy guns, they to were banned from our home.
It's as simple as that, guns kill, our entire family has always lived without guns in our homes, thank God we never needed them for any reason.
But hey, you want guns in your homes, go ahead, I don't care, what ever turns you on, but please be careful with guns around children...
remember, guns don't kill people, people with easy access to guns kill people! Homicide Rates Higher in States with More Guns at Home - Yahoo! News
Guns are used to kill two out of every three homicide victims in the United States, and new research shows that easy-access guns in the home make a difference. Homicide rates are highest in states where more households have guns, the national survey concludes.
The finding held even after taking into account socioeconomic status and gender.
"Our findings suggest that in the United States, household firearms may be an important source of guns used to kill children, women and men, both on the street and in their homes," said lead researcher Matthew Miller of the Harvard School of Public Health.

remember, guns don't kill people, people with easy access to guns kill people! | And that is the key thing some gun owners forget. Along with the right to own a gun, there is also the responsibility for safety as well.
Almost all of the people I personally know are safe with the storage of their weapons (especially around children), however there is always that one person that is a dumb****. |

Its funny that almost everyone who deals with criminals on a constant basis has guns-judges, prosecutors and cops. EVEN RON KUBY has a gun. I know-he helped me get my NY carry permit many many years ago

Preying on fear, anti-libertarians seek to betray freedom, which ultimately resides as a personal responsibility established in the right to bare arms.
Injustice must be confronted but, cowardice is no excuse for surrendering the final authority.

Injustice must be confronted but, cowardice is no excuse for surrendering the final authority. | I'm sorry, not following. Are you saying that gun owners shouldn't have the responsibility of safety with the weapon OR are you saying that gun owners are ALWAYS careful and make no mistakes? What are you talking about propaganda?
I wasn't advocating banning guns at all. I own one personally, I was only saying that the responsibility of the safety of the weapon is with the owner of said weapon. I wasn't even saying that all gun owners are irresponsible, but yes, some are. |

Current Mood: | Re: Homicide Rates Higher in States with More Guns at Home It doesn't appear that lifestyle was even considered.
Drugs do not discriminate between races or wealth. Quote: |
During the study period, 1860 homicides occurred in the three counties, 444 of them (23.9 percent) in the home of the victim. After excluding 24 cases for various reasons, we interviewed proxy respondents for 93 percent of the victims. Controls were identified for 99 percent of these, yielding 388 matched pairs. As compared with the controls, the victims more often lived alone or rented their residence. Also, case households more commonly contained an illicit-drug user, a person with prior arrests, or someone who had been hit or hurt in a fight in the home. After controlling for these characteristics, we found that keeping a gun in the home was strongly and independently associated with an increased risk of homicide (adjusted odds ratio, 2.7; 95 percent confidence interval, 1.6 to 4.4). Virtually all of this risk involved homicide by a family member or intimate acquaintance.

What?
I work in the criminal justice system....I don't know where you live.....but out of the 900 or so prosecutors I work with....I would estimate that less that 10% have guns in their homes. Do I know this as a fact....no....because I don't know all 900.....but I have a fairly friendly relationship with about 150-200 of them....and most do not have guns.....of those less than 5% of them have guns....and those are not handguns...but rifles...for hunting.....
Of the Judges I know personally....only 1 has guns....again rifles for hunting....I know at least 60-70 judges and I don't know 1 who owns a handgun.
