Top Democrat: Bring back the draft

Top Democrat: Bring back the draft - CNN.com

Wow.. someone with some... common sense, not mention BALLS. Finally a politician willing to sacrifice his career for what’s rights rather than sacrifice troops to prop it up. Like say… the Republicans.

Most Americans, or mor specifically, most pro-war Republicans, don't support it because they they dont want to have to fight. They will vote and support and praise the military while the are in the meat grinder, but god forbid we actually sacrifice, and give them what they need to win, enough men!

Most people in America disgust me . o we want to win, o we think war is good. But almost no one in America is willing to do what it takes. So, we get another Vietnam. A lot of people die for no reason, and in the end the US military is shattered, and and the US will have to pay more during the next war, because they know they can wait us out.

If you are pro-war anti-draft, you are a hypocrite. Worse, you are a coward.

Perhpas you all should pay attention to his intent behind proposing the bill in which he said: "At a time when some lawmakers are urging the military to send more troops to Iraq, "I don't see how anyone can support the war and not support the draft," said Rangel, who also proposed a draft in January 2003, before the U.S. invasion of Iraq. "I think to do so is hypocritical."

Re: Top Democrat: Bring back the draft

How about....we dont bring back the draft....and say we did? Playing dress up and playing cowboys and indians with Iraqi's isnt on my to do list for about 10-15 years.

But seriously folks.

With 2/3rds of our population overweight. Are we really in the best shape to bring back the draft? I think all those people who so fiercely defend the second amendment because "we have to defend ourselves 10,000 miles away" should be sent over to Iraq. Doughgirls and Goobieman included. One way trip.

Is that why the military doesn't support it either?

Surprise surprise. Why would any Congress person want the draft back? Then their kids might have to fight in a war that they voted for.

Re: Top Democrat: Bring back the draft

I couldn't support a draft mainly because it is not equal treatment under law...some would have to serve while others didn't...but what I could support would be compulsory service, either military service or general "public service", for EVERYONE for two years...and give them a "window" to begin that service. Say, a law that says that anytime in a 6 year window between when you are 18 and 24 you must sign up for a 2 year stint in said service. If it were purely military, you could state your first, second, and third choices of branch of service and job you want, but would be assignes based on need with consideration given to your choices. Same with a "general public service" thing.

It's fair and equal, with all treated the same. No one escapes it unless unfit medically, and it gives some folks time to grow up and mature before deciding on their life's work.
