I do think mandatory military is a good idea,However it should be combat MOSs,because most non-combat troops do not have the same perspective as combat troops,because alot of non-combat troops are basically civilian in soldier's clothing and to keep the rich/influential from bogarting all the non-combat MOSs.I think if military service was mandatory there would be alot less peace nicks and other morons out there trying to undermine the military and people would not be so quick to demonize our troops.

Most people in America disgust me . o we want to win, o we think war is good. But almost no one in America is willing to do what it takes. So, we get another Vietnam. well, at one time i was pro war. now, im not so sure. i want the whole mess to be over with. ive got a lot of friends in the military and i cant serve. there are times i wish i could. are you calling me a coward?
my reasons for not wanting the draft are that it takes a lot of people, who had promising futures and sents them into danger and in a lot of cases, gets them killed and the world is a lesser place because of them.

It is purely a political gesture, for the basic reason that even if we DID re-institute the draft, we don't have the structural ability to handle a draft. Remember all of the base closings? Remember how we have "restructured" our military? It's now more technology based, not grunt soldier based. We don't have the capacity to do it. By the time we were able to reorganize the system to handle it, the Iraq war will be over.....one way or another.

For whatever reason, you seem to think that the only way to increase the size of the military is to have a draft.

A) The military itself is against the draft.

B) The draft will insure that anti-war folks will be serving leading to a military with low morale not to mention soldiers who are more suited to working at burger king or not working at all than to be responsible for million dollar pieces of equipment.

C) A professional volunteer military is simply better than a draft military consisting of un-professional conscripted soldiers.

D) Thomas Jefferson didn't serve in the revolution, Benedict Arnold did, who was the greater Patriot?
