I picked the controls back up to this game to find that many people still play. It is a fun game. Not bad. As good as I remembered. People aren't as noobish either. More variety in weapons used etc.

Anyway I developed a few techniques while playing.

1) Frag Sniper/anti sniper- sounds noobish? Right? Not the way I use it. I use it as intended. When snipers hide behind cover (think metro spawn trap). It is devastating. I just get an 870 frag on 6x or 4x scope and lob them in.

2) Slug Sniper- on grand bazaar rush especially...870 slug with a 6x scope is murder. The ranges are perfect for slugs.

3) Smoker- I get that this is a "noob" thing. But I put an inrv and an under slung and use it to dispatch people who camp corners especially. I also love to use the smoke to assist teammates making escapes. Smoke is also a good diversion. Shoot it one way and go the other. My favorite is to also shoot a smoke right around a corner my team is on so enemies have less time to react when rounding a corner.

4) airborne- I always try to place spawn beacons that allow for parachuting into or behind enemy zones.

Anyway? Anyone still playing? You got a favorite play style?

I have BF4, but something is up with my account.

I play engineer (with the 9x18 makarov sub gun) and prefer to use vehicles with a scope/zoom. Especially the apc's.

Lol. I like being engi. I just get annoyed at how bad javs are.

My strategy.

1. Spawn.

2. Die.

3. Quit.

4. Go play decent game.

I prefer Red Orchestra (first edition, Germans vs. Russians) and Darkest hour (European theater).

Realistic ballistics, realistic weaponry, realistic APCs and tanks.

Yea I play the ARMA series of games.

well, when i played, I'm pretty sure my entire existence was to create better stats for the opposing team.

spawn...find enemy... shoot 5 mags at enemy... throw all grenades... get headshotted... yell gibberish about hackin' ass cheaters or cheating ass hackers.... rinse and repeat for hours.

I like a bit of realism to my games... I never did enjoy games where i can shoot a guy 4 times and he's not only still combat effective, but still running and jumping and killing everything in sight.

Haven't tried those...

What historical period? WWII?

And who are the participants?

ARMA is Cold War/modern military in a fictional nation. All military. It is a modders paradise. It is whatever you want a military shooter to be, and even has police mods. DayZ is based on the ARMA engine.

Look up: shacktac (dyslexi) or frankieonpcin1080p to learn more all on YouTube. It is a blast

Oh and there are real ballistics plus Windage in some mods and ww2 mods.

That was my big problem, the weapons are horrible, even with attachments to limit recoil they jump around like a fat kid in a cupcake store.

Dunno, I enjoy tank play because I was pretty good at that, otherwise with FPS's I'm getting a bit bored in general.

My preferred FPS play that I enjoyed the most is COD in Hardcore mode, semi automatic rifle, sneaking around and one shotting people with the silencer, nothing more satisfying than that.

That's interesting, can the mods be done through steam workshop?

In other words... Realistic.

Try a PPsh or a Schnellfeuer M96 Mauser while standing. One round on target. The rest up and to the right.

BTW - Tank commander standing in a Tiger copula, taken out with a Moison Nagant.... Priceless.

You might enjoy the ARMA series then. Picture your COD play style in an environment considerably larger than the biggest maps in battlefield. Plus helicopters, tanks, apcs, jets, gillie suits, submarines, boats, and all manner of military equipment lol.

See now for that I already have Planetside 2.

Sure it's futuristic but 6000 players per server, 2000 players per continent... it's mental.

COD hardcore was better than most( loved the An-94) the old original medal of honor was good too ( hardcore, with bolt actions only)... but I still lean towards liking Americas Army ( I played from v1.0 through 3.0)...I liked the way people got "injured" and "bled out" (full health is never restored, unlike other games that bestow one with magic healing powers).. and i liked the ballistics , hitbox detection, and overall weapons realism...also, no respawning ( I'm not a fan of respawns)
not a perfect game by any means, but pretty decent in realism.

I played alot of BF-1942 and BF -vietnam... but after that, it got kinda stupid to me.. it was always an arcade shooter to me.

.

Weren't you able to knock out a tank if you threw enough grenades at it?

How is that? And how computer intensive?

yeah, it took 4-6 grenades to do the job....

they kinda had to put that in there to balance gameplay (Armor players would have been nearly immortal without balancing gameplay with stupid **** like that)

A good look for a couple of months I played and it fizzled out.

It's completely and utterly mental though, it takes awhile to get comfortable with the sheer volume of players you fight with and against, we're talking pitched tank and infantry battles of 500 vs 500 with 40 to 50 aircraft above in the biggest battle I was ever in.

Games to me are all about moments, moments that stick with you.

We were defending a small outpost in the middle of the desert and were being over run, guys were getting over the walls, everytime you ran out of the spawn room they got us and our vehicle shield just got taken out.

Some guy came over the comm and said "look up, you're gonna like what you see"

And 100 aircaft came out of the sky and beat them back and we regrouped and counter attacked to the next base over.

That's the power of Planetside 2.

Hardware wise, graphics I got away with this to run Ultra graphcs

SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 285 2GB GDDR5 OC (UEFI)

But it's pretty hard on your processor, running 50-60 FPS in low pop zones but as soon as you get into the battles I described above you're talking 25-30.

Yeah they aren't the greatest, they work best coordinated in groups with one person firing just after a countermeasure has been exhausted. An AFV or MBT peeking over a hilltop with the telescopic zoom is a fierce weapon, just cover your flanks.
