Any good new "legendary" games out there?

The last truly remarkable game I played was Portal 2, and it's been a bit of a dry spell ever since. I'm not into rpg's, or anything where I have to log in or play against other people. What else is out there that'll knock my socks off like Portal 2 did?

Skyrim is an rpg, but not an mmporg. Personally I think it is awesome. I don't know Portal 2.

Portal 2 is a puzzle solving game in an fps format. It has an an extremely rich story, great dialogue and just as great voice acting. If I grew up near a nuclear plant I'd give it three thumbs up.

My beef with rpgs is "farming." I lost a whole summer to that bull****. Never again.

Farming? Or grinding?

Well you don't have to in Skyrim... but offhand I think you might like the new version of Wolfenstein... as you said, fps with an involved storyline...

I don't know. I mean that joyless, repetitive task you have to carry out for days on end just to level up sufficiently so you can get on with the game. Seriously, **** that noise.

I'll check it out, but my thing is more puzzle solving/adventure than first person shooters, per se.

I don't know that it's your speed, but I can't stop re-playing Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, trying out different combinations of mods (so we're talking PC.)

It's certainly not new, and it's an FPS\RPG, but the hundreds of mods and options for various play styles make it infinitely re-playable.

I've been following the franchise since Wasteland in '88, so I may be a bit biased.

Yeah I know there are MMPORGs where you spend days on end doing skill grinding or xp farming or what not to level up... you really don't have to in skyrim. You CAN if you want to, and it doesn't take as long to polish a skill as most of the mmporgs I didn't like, but it isn't really necessary to play the game.

My son plays the new Wolfenstein on Xbox360... I remembered playing it on pc many years ago, and when I sat down to watch him play the new one I was stunned at the graphics, and also at the involved and interesting story line.

Have a look, I think you might like it.

Have you played Black Mesa?

Watchdogs just came out its pretty good from what I've played of it so far.

This thing you call "farming"...that others call "grinding"...really only happens in MMORPG's. Single player RPG's, like Skyrim, or co-op RPG's, like Diablo 3, don't really require farming.

But, in response to your thread title, I think considering any game as being "legendary" is a very subjective characterization. The best I can tell you is that there are some VERY good games...across a variety of genres...either released or in the works. Here's some that come to mind:

Battlefield 4
Titanfall
The Witcher 3 (coming)
Assassin's Creed 4 - Assassin's Creed 5 (coming)
Dragon Age Inquisition (coming)

I'm sure there are a lot that have slipped my mind.

Black Mesa just pulls up Half Life 2 on Steam. Is Black Mesa a sequel or a mod?

Whatever word I'm supposed to use for it, it goes back as far as (at least) Hero's Quest, an rpg Sierra game that came out when games were still in 16 colors. You would have to "throw rock" or "cast fireball" infinity times in a row before you could progress. It sucks unless you like that sort of thing.

Will check out those other titles...

The Last of Us. The best game of the 360/PS3 generation. Virtually swept the 2013 Game of the Year Awards. Without a doubt the most moving story of any game I've ever played. It's absolutely riveting.

I should probably have specified that I only have a mac. Ninety percent of what everyone's suggested is either for a console or a pc. When I was in college mac had the greater variety of games. Has that ever changed.

Ahhh...yeah...that kind of sucks. I don't know anything about Apple products or what's available for them Sorry.

Yeah. Half Life 1 and 2 is available to me on Steam though. Should I give those a go?

If you are at all into FPSs, those are about the best.

I haven't played them, but I've heard they are pretty good games. Maybe a little long in the tooth so the graphics won't be up to today's standards.

Maybe you can check out this link: 75 Best Games for Mac Lots of good games listed there of a variety of genres. If you like MMORPG's, one that stood out is Guild Wars 2. That's a very good game. Virtually no grinding involved, in fact, it's totally story/quest driven. Best of all, there is no subscription for the game. Just buy it once and play it forever.

Checking out Skyrim in the previews. That's a really gorgeous looking one.
