Australian Apple devices locked in suspected Apple ID hack | ZDNet

Hackers use 'Find My iPhone' to lockout, ransom Mac and iOS device owners in Australia

This could easily spread if people are not careful.

Add a passcode to your Apple device for better security and the ability to restore the device from an iTunes backup. Of course if this is your Mac that has been hacked and locked then you are screwed.

Update your iCloud password to a more secure password... include a large letter and a number at a minimum.

I hope that it is only poor passwords these people have or even a keylogger on their Mac... but if not, and it is another massive security hole in iCloud and Apple systems, then this could get really bad if we go by Apple's normal lack of speed to update security holes.

But this news from 5 days ago...

is kinda... hmmm since we are now hearing about such hacks.

Apple iCloud and Activation Lock Hacked; Allows Hackers to Unlock Stolen Devices

ha so ransomware made it way to the apple.

ransomware is so lame.i remember once getting this big fbi screen saying my computer was locked out for illegal downloads,or terrorist activities,or etc, unless i paid 100 dollars.i just laughed and thought yeah the fbi will let anyone off the hook for 100 bucks,so i reinstalled windows and didnt have a problem.

now for iphone,im not sure it would be as simple.

The common wisdom against writing down your usernames and passwords on a piece of paper and taping it to your monitor is becoming increasingly fanciful.
