To the gamers that surf this part - do you use a gaming pad and do you have any preferences - especially any that work with PC / Windows (and why please?)

I specifically want something that can easily be programmed with a variety of shortcuts for different software / games and I've looked at the Razer Nostromo and the Logitech G13 bu tare there any others you would recommend?

I'm a pretty hardcore PC gamer but I rarely use game pads, because for most games the keyboard and mouse work much better. However, when I do need one, I use an old Xbox 360 controller. I picked one up at a garage sale for like 2 bucks, and it's USB so it plugs right in and microsoft provides the driver.

They've gotten especially cheap lately since everyone wants wireless and everyone is shifting to the new Xbox One.

I second the xbox 360 controller. I have a wireless 360 for windows controller that I use, and I also use a small free program called xpadder to map the buttons, when I am lazy I can lay in bed and use the controller as a mouse.

That's the core of what I'm after.. do you know if this works with a PS3 movement controller?

The Logitech and other gaming pads can be around $70 new ($40 on ebay) but I guess I can get a PS3 or Xbox controller for far less. At the moment I'm veering more towards the PS3 controller - smaller in the hand because I want this thing for digital painting on my tablet PC.

I just bought a wireless xbox controller for windows for appx. $40 within the last couple of months. Prior to this I had a wired xbox controller, however the wire developed a short and my chopstick/drinking straw/tape patch job was not helping anymore :2razz:

A plus with the 360 controller is that some games have native xbox controller support, while you never see native logitech or PS3 support (not sure how this will work going forwards, or if it will be backwards compatible to XBox1 controllers though.)

xpadder in theory works with just about any controller; however I have never tried it myself on anything other than a 360 controller

Any PC gamer should own a Xbox 360 controller or probably in the future an Xbox One controller.

if you want a game controller, practically any reputable brand should work out of the box for any games that support game pads.inftact usb game pads have been supported since windows 98 second edition as plug and play,so it merely comes down to what feels comfortable.

Out of curiosity, other than FIFA maybe, what games would you use such a pad on?

Platformers, puzzle games, fighting games, flight sims, all sports games, 3rd person shooters/action/action RPG, racing games, all side scrolling games.

I think Strategy and First person view games are the only ones where mouse and keyboard excel.
