chess: is this game a draw?

Mornin AT. :2wave: Well.....the puter would have the advantage. If you are a good player, then you could take the draw.

Myself.....I would want to see how the puter plays it out.
Morning MMC.
I guess since i have no patience anymore, nor want to spend a lot of time on an endgame, i'll offer the draw.

My game has deteriorated down to around 1500, not too crappy, but I just do not have the patience I used to to linger over the board,
and play out endgames.
Pity. one aspect of growing older is lack of desire to spend hours in minutia of the game.

Yeah.....I wish DP had a Chess Room. One might say.....I use to play a little. ;)

But you are Right as one gets older.....as I use to play computer games, Strategy and Tactics. Same interest isn't there anymore. Once my kids grew up and moved out, it really died off. Which that was even with the thrill of using computers or game consoles.

I did hang out in a coffeeshop out West Coast when I was in Californification.....what got me to check the place out was a couple of guys in there playing chess. Either against someone or a puter. When it was nice out.....they would sit outside and play any that came along. Including those that played for money.

I need to go to a chess club and play over the board again, been way too long - nothing like "pushing wood".
I should go today, as I'm not going to work ( iwork every weekend), but have to play nurse....always something..

I'll play chess with you, MMC! I also used to "play a little." Keeps the brain from getting all foggy...

To be honest I use to play for money and in Tourneys.....when I came back home to Chicago and found out most I knew were gone. I use to play a few High school's Chess Teams. Sat out downtown playing out by the lake one summer too. I can say I have come across those of the USCF and their rankings.

Even as a Kid.....I would get into a tourney for 5 bucks and walk out with 500 dollars after a whole day of playing and winning. It was just one of the ways I was able to pick up some of the Ole Longbottom Leaf from South Farthing.

Something an old coot named Gandalf shared with me once.

I started playing in 1959....at 4 years old, by the time of high school I was a "chess nerd",
and we were the cool guys for the Fisher/Spassky match.

I eventually beat the Maryland Chess Association head in match play, prolly the peak of my "career".

I stay away from blitz chess, it is the ruination of your chess mind..if you ever get a chance though, check out this movie:

Yeah I know of it.....we use to play blitz chess. Course against 4 or 5 others at the same time. So that problem never really came
about.

There was a group of us too. We played Mychess III back then.....which was the only Puter that beat Karpov once out of 25 matches.

gawd I hate Karpov....lol..but he is very good. I stayed away from computer chess until it was an inevitability.
The Kasparov/Karpov matches were still unparalled; although Annad is prolly a better player.

I like this shot from the World Trade Center.

you can clik back thru the game. I am white, don't see any reason to play it out.
I own Houdini and I placed it in the fastest mode of analysis and this is what it showed.

draw seemed reasonable-its been 30 years since I really played. was about an 1700 in HS-thought I was good till I got to college and ran into guys like IM Evan Michaelides, and GMs John Tisdale, Mike Rohde and later Joel Benjamin and Mike Wilder. Didn't do too well playing Evan who ended up being one of my best friends. In fact he took on the best ten players in our residential college and destroyed all of us

When I first went into the Service.....I beat every single officer I ever played, and I played a lot. Use to carry a little pocket board, with me when I went to Nam. Naturally.....I wanted the Top Brass to step up to the plate. But they never did. Nothing over a Major.

I beat Robert Brown and Dr. Steven Tennant. Both US ChessMasters listed by the USCF. Came across a lot that said they were juniors in the USCF.

I play OK now. My Niece in NYC is being tutored by some GM. She'll probably kick my butt next time I see her.

I was happy at one time being over 1700 in chess and over 2000 in Table Tennis

Yeah I taught my sons how to play.....didn't last long. Then it was puter games and then Sony Playstation. One rarely sees or hears about people playing much anymore. Once my kids graduated out of high school. Then I got away from knowing what Schools had good chess teams.

about where I got to, around 1700, any more and you have to do like your niece, and start dedication to chess. Hope she does well, women players are coming on strong now.

that's a really good crowd,, I never played professional, must be a gas..

There is a school in Texas that Master Evan Michaelides coaches that has won a bunch of stuff (I know this from Alumni notes). THere was a mostly black school in Harlem that had the first Black GM coaching there that did really well a few years ago.

When I went to law school I met a graduate student who was an IM. one of the other ILs was about a 1950-he had been the top player at St Johns (not the big university but the college that has the "Great Books" program in MD). He was telling me about his College team and this grad student, who was in line with us at the student union for lunch mentioned he had played against the Yale team. He was laughing how he was the only college player to beat Mike Rohde but noted he then lost to Michaelides, Tisdale and Levy (an Israeli IM) who were 2-3-4 on the 1980 team

and then he said it got worse because after Evan Graduated, Yale got Mike Wilder and Joel Benjamin

at one time Yale's team was ranked in the top 10 in the world-of COUNTRY teams!! You had Russia and Hungary and the USA and Germany and Yale was ahead of England-one of the Yale guys beat Tony Miles IIRC at some tournament.
