I'll be honest, I'm a pc gamer, but I've always had a console. Last generation it was the PS3 and I usually just keep one around as an entertainment system/FPS gaming when I have some friends over.

I decided to go with the Xbox one this time around because I like what they did with the Kinnect and the P90X/fitness stuff.

That said I was still hoping for a bit more of a leap in graphics. I keep hearing about all the games that are coming out in native 720p and its disappointing.

I'm sitting here playing Metro Last Light on a computer I bought in 2007 (only thing I've upgraded was the graphics card to a GTX660ti which is hardly a high end card) at 1080p with very high settings and it looks amazing.

Do you think it will get better or am I destined for some buyers remorse?

We're not going to have an Xbox One in my house. My two son's agree. We already have the NSA watching us. There's no way I will knowingly allow Microsoft to see into my house anytime they want.

Just my opinion.

Xbox 360 is being supported for another 3 years. There is absolutely no reason for me to blow $500 on this over priced cable box. I'll buy all those cool games that will be on Xbox One....for my 360...and my experience will be just as good. So I'm not going to waste money on it at all. After those 3 years....IF the Xbox One has gotten rid of all of it's bugs and glitches and IF Microsoft reduces the price so the mere middle class worker can actually afford it...I might get one. Used. On Ebay. We'll see lol.

Xbox one is another overhyped Microsoft console. They lost on the price point and hardware this time around. Sony improved the controller again while keeping it's functionality, the move is compatible and if you already had one you can just port it over, and while the numbers look "close" on paper, Sony wins the horsepower war yet again, a tech guy was telling me that the PS4 is more powerful by about a factor of ten, give or take. Sony admitted with PS3 that they made the system too complicated for both programmers and consumers so they streamlined the OS, while Microsoft chose a bunch of features that really are just fancy bells and whistles that most gamers don't need. I have a remote control and various media, I couldn't care less about voice commands. As well, I'm going to be damned if my hardware tells me I have to utilize it on it's schedule, must connect to internet, and must re-buy a game I either borrowed or purchased from a friend. No thanks, Xbox one was a turd.

I've never been a dirty console peasant but if I had to buy a console, as in, at gunpoint, I'd get a Xbocs 1 not a PS4. Microsoft screws the pooch with the launch but then works twice as hard to make it all good later down the line. And historically, the Xbox 360 had a better line-up of games than the PS3. I mean it just had the superior games year after year... with this year being the exception. PS3 had some really good games these past few months that were really applauded.

But I don't recommend buying first generation console of any kind. Really, wait for 2-3 more generations to come out (so like, version of the same product, not a 2-3 new console generation) and see what gets done.

Halo.

In my view, even though gamers are absolutely convinced that it will be a media machine, it will continue to suck as a media machine. Yes, buyers remorse. Gamers are idiots about media, so don't listen to them about the goodies of its media capabilities. If it sucks for the games, it will suck, period.

I'll end up getting both the Xbox and the PS4.

Probably Xbox first because of Titanfall.

Kinect is a feature people love...to show there friends. Other than that, it is pretty meh. PS4 is a better console for gaming. PS4 will have more games, but XBOX will have more US games will PS4 will have lots of imports from Japan with limited appeal to most US gamers(though I like them myself). In the end it won't make much difference.

It won't get better. Technology is always improving, and my computer that I bought 3 years ago will absolutely crush an xbox one even today. It's old, recycled technology and you've paid too much for it.

I mean really? 720p? What is this 2005?

Which I agree with completely.

Its pretty much how I feel, computers have been playing 1080p forever and have already moved on to 3D and much higher resolutions.

Its kind of shocking to me a "next gen" console that isn't even released yet is struggling to play 1080p. Even very modest and outdated computers can do this.

My PC is and old Dell XPS i bought in 2007. Core 2 quad (2.6 GHZ) 8GB DDR2 Ram, GTX660ti (2GB card)
This wasn't cutting edge when i bought it and is barely mid range now, yet I can play any game out at 1080p with good fps.

a "next gen" console should at least be competative with a low to mid range computer or even better since games are optimized for that specific set of hardware.

It's supposed to be much better for the Xbox One. We'll have to wait and see, but I wouldn't rush to judgement so quickly on the new Kinect.

Yet no game will look that much better on a PC than it will on the PS4 or the Xbox one. Developers develop for the consoles and port to PC, so the 5,000 dollar gaming rig you've bought is not all that much better than the 400 dollar console others have bought.

Who is really losing money?

Also, COD is running at 720p, I'm sure that is just an optimization problem and obviously by mid-summer every game should be hitting 1080p.

There is no absolute when talking about which platform games are developed for and which one they are ported to. Sometimes they are developed for the PC and ported to consoles, sometimes they are developed for consoles and ported to the PC, and sometimes it's a mixture of both.

Who spends $5,000 on a gaming rig anyway? Idiots?

Who buys a $5,000 gaming rig? The system I'm running cost $1,200, and that was 3 years ago. It will be better than this and probably the next generation of consoles after the xbox one. You have the buy the product 3 different times over the same cycle. Then you pay out the ass for accessories and console specific games.

Yeah, I'm hoping Steam Boxes eventually kill this console nonsense once and for all. All consoles are are heavily limited PCs.

I'm still using the same Xbox I got in 2007, works great. Same with my PS3 in 2010.

And no, your current rig is already out of date. There are better parts out there that aren't in your PC, that can cost up to $600.

Your PC right now won't be able to run games at max settings in 2 years. You are overestimating your PC and underestimating the consoles.

Even with your $1,200 cost, which will go up if you upgrade parts, buying both the PS4 and Xbox will only run someone $900. Also, you are not excluded from the cost of buying accessories and games.

Now I don't have the PC platform, I can't wait to have the money to be able to buy a high end PC that will be able to run the PC games I want to play. The sense of superiority, as if anyone who enjoys playing games on a console is an idiot, infuriates me. PC fanboys, are the worst kind.

I think we all have in our mind some line that we want to see at a minimum. For me that line is 1080p (and apparently many others)

I even bought a $3000 tv a few months back in anticipation of this.

Sure there are graphics cards that can push 4k resolution now, or 3D. I don't need that, I'm perfectly content with 1080p.

The lure of the "next gen" consoles to me was that if they could provide that, I'd be spending allot more time on the console and less on the PC.

It would be nice not having to constantly upgrade parts and optimize games.

I will still buy the xbox and use it primarily as an entertainment box, I guess my expectations were to high. If most of the games are 720p, it just doesn't feel like progress, and they are talking about it having a 10 year run, its going to feel like an Atari compared to what is available elsewhere by then.

Nope, no Xbox One here. I refuse to have anything that Microsoft can turn on at their whim and I can't disconnect. I have no Kinnect now, I will never have a Kinnect in the house. So long as it's a mandatory part of the Xbox, I will never own one again. My decision, however, was made the second they even TRIED to get rid of the secondary gaming market and refuse to allow people to buy used games. They recanted, but just making the attempt at all made me realize the Xbox is no longer the system for me. Maybe the next system, if Microsoft doesn't continue to be stupid, but not this generation. My money goes to the PS4 this time around.

I just wasn't that impressed with the next-gen graphics. Not if the gameplay is exactly the same as the last-gen games.

Once they stop making games for my PS3, then I might consider getting one. Especially if they're $400-$500.

I will wait until there is a game that I truly want before getting the next gen system. Most likely the PS4

Well it didn't take long. Picked my xbox up this morning and went home to set everything up. Plugged everything in and it seemed fine, one setup was finished my kinect completely stopped working. Says unplugged even though it is plugged in.

Seems like others are having this problem too:

"kinect is unplugged"...but it is actually plugged in! help me!

Which isn't surprising. I always recommend waiting a pre-determined amount of time before buying a newly released game console. And it's because of bugs, defective software/hardware, etc.

I don't think so...I prefer a computer as well but I like consoles. I'm also getting an Xbox One.

I already have something that can pump out stuff much better looking than either console so I went with the Xbox One for the media features. Honestly...from all reviews it's pretty nice.

I sent my kinect back for replacement. I have been playing Ryse and having a blast. Other than the kinect problem I have enjoyed it so far.
