Anyone know of any "shooter" type games that has realistic physics for range, velocity, sighting systems, windage, ballistics, etc of current model rifle systems? Especially sniper/extreme-range shooting?

ARMA 2 probably has something pretty close to what you're looking for. Fair warning, however; the learning curve is pretty steep.

I'm looking for something to help train the mental aspects of long range shooting without the costs of high-power ammunition. Will still need to do the physical training also, but would be great to reduce things like calculation times, and other factors by practicing them on a sim.

I'll check it out.

Depends on the platform

Have you thought about trolling google for some sort of dedicated simulator? It sounds like you're more interested in getting the fundamentals down than blowing up bad guys left and right.

ARMA 3 has replaced it now to my knowledge though ARMA 2 still has plenty of mods.

NOT a game but what you might be looking for.

I know what you're looking for and as far as I know it doesn't exist. If you find it I'd definitely be interested as well.

From the website that looks like something they install professional gear for you to use with, not something you can do on your PC.

Check out "Project Reality" apparently that's the most realistic game out there.

Thanks, I looked them up. PR mods Battlefield 2 and ARMA 2, so I have a couple of choices. Sounds like from a quick read that it supports a training mode, so your not getting killed or "endangering" your team while learning.

If you are really interested in long range shooting but are just getting into it or want good training on fundamentals before getting into it look for an Project Appleseed program in your area. Even their full blown "Boot Camps" run roughly $200 and you'll meet people who can steer you the direction of however much training you could ever want.

Does it come with the TAC-50? I'm only a couple of hours from the McMillan plant, I could pick it up.

No clue just run into them and some other interesting folks looking for something to interface with a project of mine.

There's some dude here on DP who makes a thread every couple of months hawking his "sniper flash cards". You could be his first customer.
