No sensible person would allow YouTube comments at all.
Then what about ratings. Let people like or dislike the video you put up. That's the court of public opinion on the content you put up.
When criticizing the video game industry for its content and outlook, it is obvious that one of the first defenses lobbied is "it's just a game." Then at the same time we are supposed to take them seriously for their story lines only when it is convenient for promoting the seriousness of games.
The gaming industry is huge. There are a great variety of genres each with numerous titles. It also has 2 components, the developers and the consumers.
If you're going to use vague lines like this you're going to have to come up with examples and talk on those examples. So since you didn't let me do it for you.
Let's talk about 3 titles who made shockwaves in a few genres.
RPGs -> Bioshock (infinite). I'm sure you can agree that the female character there, while not the main protagonist, is really well developed.
Dragon Age Origins. Pick the worst 2 starting races in the game, common dwarf and city elf. Pick the female version of them and in a short time you find yourself playing with a powerful leading female character.
Skyrim -> same deal as above.
Which genre needs a good story to thrive? RPGs. So your phrase which can be best applied here, doesn't pan out well for the feminist movement. But rather, for what I am saying all along.
FPS-> COD, CS and I don't know... Unreal Tournament. Tell me the impressive and immersive story line there and where are the immersive well developed characters? I don't see anything of the sort.
So you really don't have a case.
