Xbox One and PS4

Preordered both

Too late.

Exactly. The idea that they'd even consider doing it has guaranteed I will not buy the next generation of Xbox. It was a bad idea from the start, just because they changed their mind for business reasons is irrelevant, they should have rejected it on moral grounds from the beginning.

Screw Microsoft.

It will be a difficult first year for them explaining that what they said at E3 is no longer true. The confusion rate alone will be a big problem for them, just as it had been since before the start of their first reveal. It may be overcome after a while, especially to those who have not kept up with the announcements to begin with, however, I think the reputation among the more dedicated users is going to falter.

For me, the implementation of their world view was enough to make me distrust them. New features come all the time, and Microsoft has nailed itself to doing things that are counter to what I want to be able to do. If something new comes along in the next 4-5 years, I can be expected to figure out what direction Microsoft will take it-make it unfriendly to the consumer, more expensive, and time consuming.

It's not confusion, it's trust. Any company that makes it clear that they'll happily stab the consumer in the back as long as they can get away with it isn't a company I want to do business with. They didn't back off because they realized that they were fundamentally wrong in the first place, they backed off because of consumer anger and it was harming them financially.

Therefore, forget it. Besides, the PS4 is a superior system at a better price. I'll go that way this time.

I'm not saying that distrust won't be a factor. It just won't be a factor for a lot of people. I think they will be confused with what they are allowed or not allowed to do with one product, whereas they know what they can do with the other. That knowing would be supplemented with other recommendations from that one guy they know that likes games a lot and says the PS4 is the way to go, and what more can you say after looking at the wallet? Gamers feel like they are being stabbed in the back, but youngsters and parents may not care as much as some generalized notion of what to do.

I don't care about a lot of people, I care about me and I don't trust them so they're getting a pass.

Considering all this, it seems like Microsoft is hoping brand loyalty will get them through. I don't have such loyalties. I will buy whichever system I believe to be the best value and right now it's looking like the playstation.

I was really looking forward to the Xbox and the kinnect but all of this oppressive DRM stuff I'm hearing (if true) makes it a tough pill to swallow.

Me either, I've been an Xbox family for, well, ever, but I will switch to PS4 in a heartbeat if the decision makes sense, plus I'll get to play Gran Tourismo again. :)

I think the Xbox One just feels more like a next gen console to me.

With Kinnect shipping with every console developers will put more time in utilizing what it can offer.

I know most of you console lovers are not all that concerned with graphics quality. If you were, you would play your games on a good PC. But for those of you who DO like great graphics and want to play on a console, Xbox One is the way to go.

DirectX 11.2 an Xbox One and Windows 8.1 Exclusive

DirectX 11.2 promises to bring a host of new features such as the new "Tiled Resources" technique that will (unsurprisingly) be exclusive to the Xbox One and Windows 8.1.

At this year’s Build Developers Conference, Microsoft unveiled its latest version of DirectX, demonstrated the new "Tiled Resources" technique, and made the announcement that the update will be exclusive to Windows 8.1 and the Xbox One.

"Tiled Resources" allows for significant enhancement of in-game textures by making it possible to simultaneously access GPU and traditional RAM memory and create a single large buffer where large textures can be stored. This technique was demonstrated with a model of Mars which displayed a 3 GB texture using just 16 MB of GPU memory and in Graphine’s Granite Flight Simulator that showed "a remarkably detailed island with gliders constructed out of 64 megapixels."

Fortunately for me...a PC gamer...I'm using Win8 so I get to enjoy this graphic goodness as well.

I'm not putting a console in my house that has to have a camera to work in which the microphone on the camera is always on.

Ehhh...I already feel naked to corporate intrusion with all the information they have about me. If they want to see me killing idiots in Battlefield 4 in basketball shorts and an undershirt they are welcome to it.

Yup, it's called the Xbox One

I saw that - just a joke. I'm not sure what they were hoping to accomplish with the setup. I'm sure it was planned before all this NSA stuff happened, but sucks to be a victim of bad timing.

I know. I'm still astounded how people are still gonna buy it after Microsoft tried to **** over their consumers.

0 Xbox One's have been sold. I'm also not sure I'd classify it as ****ing over the customers. You could virtually share any game with 10 family/friends with the DRM. My brothers/friends etc would have a massive sharable library. That would of been pretty awesome. One person would buy a game and everybody else could play it. Was a pretty cool concept.

Well, if you hate the console after they fix all the things you don't like about it you go from becoming a reasonable consumer voicing their opinions with their dollars, to an unreasonable prick.

They only changed the console after consumer outrage made them realize they made a massive mistake. The problem is that they'd make those mistakes in the first place. It's like a car manufacturer releasing a car that runs in ground up kittens, then changing their mind after people refused to buy the car. The fact that they thought it was a good idea in the first place means that you cannot trust that manufacturer, any more than I trust Microsoft right now.

Trust is a very big factor in choosing which system to buy.

Not at all. There are still plenty of things I don't like about, besides, the stats of the PS4 are better, pretty much down the line.

I'm just pissed they attempted it in the first place.
