My son bought Skyrim for himself, and now we're fighting over whose turn it is to play... and I'm not really that much of a gamer.

Darn good game... addictive too, I've been burning time playing it when I really ought to be doing other things. Stayed up till 2am the other night and I'm usually in bed at 10.

Open-world format, lots and lots of dense content and new nooks and crannies to explore, lots of options, but very playable.... not too complicated to turn off a casual gamer like me.

When you look it, it should be a pretty horrible game as all you do is dungeon crawling but it's incredibly addictive.

Normally I don't like dungeon-crawls, but they don't bother me so much in skyrim. For one thing, some of the "dungeons" actually have some cool architecture and decorative whatnots, and some "wow that's cool" vistas inside them.

For another, you get to do quite a bit of non-dungeon stuff in between... like the arson/murder case I investigated that involved ghosts and vampires. Well, that actually ended in a "dungeon" but the first part wasn't.

I prefer Fallout, the post-apocalyptic setting I find is much better.

Great story as well. If you liked Skyrim you should try Bethesda's other franchise, Fallout. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and if you get it make sure you buy the game of the year edition with all the expansions, it's well worth it.

Also you gain dragon powers which is pretty tight.

Goshin...that game is dangerous. I don't even want to say how many hours I have into it and I still have more I want to "accomplish". It just doesn't end. I mean, hell, I finished the main quest a long, long time ago but there was still a ton of stuff left to do so I got working on that but it seems like every time I turn around there's another dozen things that "need" to be done.

Yep there are an infinite number of quests lol.

Also since we're on the topic just a few ridiculously awesome Skyrim videos I came across.

Yeah, we got Fallout3 a while back, and I've played it some. I like it a lot, but I go back to the old "Mad Max" movies too. :)

If you like Skyrim, try Daggerfall, which is Skyrim with better story, more complex environment, more imaginative quests, more exploration, and deeper gameplay.

Just got it for the ps3.

Load screens are interminable, which is a good thing.

Without them i'd probably still be playing!

"Might as well head over to Whiterun and sleep a couple hours before I save and quit."

"You know, I'll be glad I did if I go by the trader and unload some of this stuff so I won't have to do it later."

"Ooooh! An arcane enchanter, it'll only take a minute to enchant my armor with that grand soul gem I got. And where was that sharpening wheel again....."

"3 AM! How the hell did that happen?"

Oh man, you're going to be in trouble. I can't even tell you how many hours I've put into that game. It's seriously addictive. Make sure to pick up the DLC. It adds some cool stuff.

Just for everyone who doesn't already know there's three total DLCs.

I've played skyrim...but, since I'm more of an MMO kind of guy I'm waiting for the Elder Scrolls MMO. It's like skyrim...but better.

I play that game all the time. The gameplay itself is fun, but I also like the graphics, music, and plot that adjusts around your actions rather than forcing you to take specific actions. There are quite a few problems with the game, though:

1. The game is incredibly glitchy. Most glitches don't matter, but I've had glitches that get me stuck in a specific spot, and sometimes I can't absorb dragon souls. It's also interesting to see mammoths spawn fifty feet off the ground.

2. The loading screens. One of my friends quit playing because they finally got to him. If there's a boss or a bunch of enemies that I have a hard time killing, the 30 second loading screens add insult to injury.

3. Have any of you beaten the main questline yet? If you have then you'll know that the second time around Alduin was way too easy. The enemies and bosses before him, especially Tsun were hard enough to compensate, but still. The final boss should have been harder.

4. The game is a time suck. I need to play for two or three hours to get any fun out of it. That's a sign of a good game, but it's a problem that breaches the fourth wall.

One of my favorites.

While we're on that particular subject, I'd strongly recommend playing the game on PC over xbox or ps3 simply because of all of the mods that are available.

I can't even begin to tell you how many custom abilities, spells, weapons, armor, and gameplay tweaks I've added to my playthrough with mods. It's like a whole 'nother game in and of itself.

For instance, my character...

Wouldn't even be possible without mods.

I wanted my character to look powerful and unique, but I absolutely hated the look of the higher end weapons and armor in the vanilla game. As such, I started mixing and matching different combinations of texture and weapon mods until I finally nailed down the "part Darth Vader/part Batman/part Viking" look you see above, and I've used it ever since.

I also downloaded a mod which makes virtually every kill you make into a scripted kill move, so not only do I look bad ass, but I fight basically like something akin to Brad Pitt's character from the movie Troy as well.

And like 15 years old

Morrowind was the epitome of the TES series.

I actually meant Morrowind. Not sure why I typed Daggerfall, though the sizes and scope of Daggerfall was amazing.

I actually downloaded Daggerfall on your recommendation and can get it running through DOSBox but it's a pain to have to remount everything every time you want to play. But Morrowind....with the two addons....unbelievable. The only thing I'd change in that game is to scale back on the damned cliff racers.
