I really like the iPhone. I can't see myself with any other mobile phone, at least that's how I feel now. I've invested a nice chunk of change into the iPhone with apps and music. I like a lot of its features including group features only iPhone uses can take advantage of and I'm in a way married to the iPhone... for now. That said I fully realized the Samsung Galaxy 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note kicked the iPhone 5's butt last Christmas and I fully expect the Apple to respond in kind with the iPhone 6. I've already heard Apple has just filed a slew of new patents we should be seeing soon in the 6 and other Apple products. I also realize corporate America combs the Internet to see what the public is saying about their products and thought it would be fun to start a thread where iPhone junkies and potentials can share what they'd like to see in the next edition then we can have fun claiming bragging rights as coming up with the idea(s) even if they were planning to do them anyway.

My iPhone 6 wish list:

1. Bigger is better. I want a larger screen; not just taller but wider as well.

2. Faster processor.

3. Include spam filtration standard with the phone's email program.
4. Animated graphics on the home screen.

5. Some type of user customization such as themes and/or color scheme selection.

6. Include either a free car charger in addition to the wall outlet charger or $50 credit in the App/iTunes store with each purchase.
7. Fix the maps (I'm sure they plan to).

8. Give every iPhone user a free mac.com email address.

9. A quick easy access app to turn off and on all of the power hogging stuff if you want to save battery life without having to dig deep into the settings where Blue Tooth, data, and WiFi can all be switched off and on and close all apps not being used with one click. Do not include location services since many people have stolen phone and family member location programs running in the background for safety and security.

10. Go back to requiring users to enter their iTunes passwords for app updates. It sounds like it would be annoying but it actually helps people remember their passwords.

11. Save username and passwords for apps when they close. HBO To Go, CNN, your cable TV provider's on demand service, etc. It would be nice if you didn't need to re-enter the username and password each time you open the app just like games don't require a new log in each time. I'm starting to think either Apple or the content providers don't really want us to use streaming services by making it such a hassle each time you use them and really only want to be able to "say" they make it available hoping all along you want actually use it a lot. If that's the case, out them with a pop-up saying "by closing this app XYZ has chosen to require you to re-enter your username and password the next time you use it. Do wish to proceed?" Unlike the iTunes password, you only need to know it for that particular service unlike iTunes where your whole music library and apps could be lost forever.

Thanks too to all other smart phone makers for forcing all the players to out do each other.

That's called an "iPad"

You will get none of this because there is no need to do any of this at least for free because of Apple's cult that will buy anything no matter how little difference there is form the last. Buy a phone form a company that doesn't try to destroy the competition with lawsuits instead of trying to actually innovate.

This is why I skipped the iPhone 5. I also had a family member switch from the iPhone 4 to Samsung and another returned their Christmas gift iPhone and got a Samsung instead. I really think Apple has learned its lesson, maybe adjusting to losing Steve Jods and plan to shock and awe Samsung next go round. Reports are they've filed a bunch of new patents.

Were they for thongs they shouldn't be able to like rectangles? I imagine they have nothing much up their sleeve because like I said they have a cult to buy anything and slaves to make everything.

Almost all of this already exists on the Galaxy S III, which is why I went with it instead of the iPhone. It's just that far ahead.

my next phone is either going to be a Galaxy S4 or the next iPhone. i kind of wanted it to be the iPhone, because i'd love to learn the OS. however, i think it will probably end up being the s4, because i don't see how that can be topped.

my mom is getting her first smartphone this year, and i'm thinking of steering her towards Apple, because it seems that there are less quirks than Android. i'm pretty good at dealing with the mysterious problems of Android; someone from the previous generation might not be. maybe i'll get to learn the OS after all.

I know. I just can't see Apple sitting back and not responding. Competition is our friend.

To my knowledge Samsung doesn't presently offer: 3, 6, 8, 9 or 11. They should too. I don't care if the Samsung is as good as or better than the iPhone. In fact I like it; it forces the iPhone to improve and gives me options if they won't.

It has 3 and 11 to some extent (11 depends on the app -- some do, some don't. The default web browser does). There are task killers available for 9, thought they're not even necessary. No free car charger (unless your car has an AC outlet or a USB port, I guess, which many newer ones do), no mac.com.

See most of those can be remidedi with apps on the Android but on the iPhone Apple bans as "mimicking built-in functionality." Competition is our friend when consumers aren't idiots, sadly that is the case with Apple. Apple has a cult that will buy anything and pay ludicrous prices to do so therefore they don't really have to innovate to remain profitable.

Didn't Samsung latest smart phones (Galaxy 3 and Note) outsell the iPhone 5? Being outsold is a wake up call that cannot be ignored. I don't think for a minute Apple is sitting back and letting that happen more than once.

Maybe I'm a part of the cult to which you refer.

-User friendliness
-Special features unique to the iPhone especially group stuff like facetime like group messaging
-Existing investment in apps that cannot be transferred to other platforms
-Automatic Cloud based backup of music and books library tied to my iTunes account, not any single device
-Interactive with Apple TV (which is currently getting its butt handed to it too by Roku, so I expect improvements there as well).
-Quality of the retina display, which I like better than the Samsung graphics.
-Full professional grade multi-media capabilities, that Samsung doesn't touch but something the average person would never care about. You can make multi-track studio quality music recordings with an iPhone for example.

I love my phone but expect improvements.

So you want an 2 year old Android phone then?

My iPhone 6 wish list:

1. Bigger is better. I want a larger screen; not just taller but wider as well.

Wont happen, at least not this time around. It would piss off the developer world big time. iPhone 5 was a massive change, that forced all developers to redo do their apps, and with the upcoming ban on non iPhone 5 apps in the app store, that change will just excelerate. I doubt Apple will do this half a year after the last go, where there was a lot of moaning. One of the reasons iOS is semi easy to develop too, is because of the constant screen sizes.

2. Faster processor.

That always happens. But rumor has it, that it wont be Samsung this time around, which might complicate things.

3. Include spam filtration standard with the phone's email program.

Wont happen, plus it already exists... its called outlook.com/hotmail.com and gmail and yahoo.com. If Apple adds this, then there could be serious anti-trust issues.. they already have those with Safari on iOS.

4. Animated graphics on the home screen.

Wont happen. It might be cool, but it drains battery and since iPhones have to be thinner and lighter, that means a small battery. So Apple have to handicap the OS everywhere it can to get the same battery life out of the device.

5. Some type of user customization such as themes and/or color scheme selection.

Maybe. But considering Apple rarely changes its design of its software, then I doubt it.

6. Include either a free car charger in addition to the wall outlet charger or $50 credit in the App/iTunes store with each purchase.

LOL yea right. Will never ever happen. If they wanted to do this, then they would have included a freaking converter in their products when they introduced the new port in the last major update.

7. Fix the maps (I'm sure they plan to).

They are, but they are half a decade behind Google, Nokia and Microsoft. Improvements wont happen overnight and frankly Apple will be behind the others for a long time.

8. Give every iPhone user a free mac.com email address.

Why?

Wont happen. It is simple as hell to do, and yet Apple have refused to do this since day one. I doubt they will pull out this feature now. Plus it will require more access to the core iOS functions, something that Apple has never done and in fact gone out of its way to prevent. They are in fact going to sandbox everything now.

10. Go back to requiring users to enter their iTunes passwords for app updates. It sounds like it would be annoying but it actually helps people remember their passwords.

Hmm every time I help people with their iDevice and am in the app store, it requires a login and password for every freaking free purchase.. freaking annoying. No what they need to implement globally is a standardized system to prevent in-app purchases.. like Google has. There are still plenty of stories of small children racking up 10s of thousands of dollars of credit card charges on their parents card, because of a so called free game with in game purchasing, where there is no clear information that it happens.

11. Save username and passwords for apps when they close. HBO To Go, CNN, your cable TV provider's on demand service, etc. It would be nice if you didn't need to re-enter the username and password each time you open the app just like games don't require a new log in each time. That is more up to the app designer than Apple.. although I suspect Apple has prevented the app developers from implementing anything like this because of "security" reasons.. or more like lack of security. I dont know if they have fixed it yet, but not long ago, all passwords on OSX and iOS were stored on the device in plain text and unencrypted. Bonehead move by Apple.

Thanks too to all other smart phone makers for forcing all the players to out do each other.

Err to be fair, the other smartphone makers have been out doing Apple for over 2 years. Even Nokia and Blackberry phones are more advanced and customizable than Apple these days. The iPhone is slowly becoming a "dumb" phone, far behind the others.

Oh and just because you have invested in a lot of stuff on iTunes does not mean you have to use the iPhone. You can easily move your iTunes library to other phone formats. Plus to be fair.. Amazon is way cheaper than iTunes :)

How about when I want to install something from their store for the first time they don't make me take twenty minutes out of my day to fill out all their annoying bull****?

How about when they create areas for certain types of apps that they make sure that the apps actually go in those little areas. For example, when you create something called "games" every damn ****ing game should go in there. I shouldn't have games all over the ****ing place...still.

Most of the items on your list are software (firmware at worst), not hardware. Why are you so eager to have to buy yet another handset to get some fairly basic improvements? It's bad enough with these companies trying to trick people in to buying new stuff every six months without you begging for it.

Couldn't they simply increase the overall size of the phone so that the both the height and width both increase leaving the ratio to height and width the same.

Size and spam are the two biggest complaints I have with the iPhone. In my case, my email address to tied to my employer's domain name so just using Gmail, etc. instead isn't that easy. I suppose I could set up to forward to a Gmail address. Our domain is hosted by AT&T and they have sometime called Spam Assassin and its set to the highest level but I still have to delete several hundred junk emails a day.

Oh well, maybe a Samsung is in my future.

Nope, every app would have to be redone. Look at when the iPad mini came out.. they had to redo all the iPad apps. Now Apple did put in the black bar of death to compensate for this issue on the iPhone 5, but that is being removed now. I am talking about the 2 black bars on each side of the app, for those apps not optimized for the iPhone 5. So expect a massive clean-out of apps from the App store soon, when all the non optimized for iPhone 5 apps get booted.

What you can do, if your companies email system allows it.. is set up Gmail in such a way that all your mail is forwarded to Gmail, and when you send you send via Gmail but over your companies email servers. That way you get the best of both worlds.

I have my own domain, but I forward all my mails to my Gmail and in Gmail, I have set it up so that replies to my personal domain email goes through so it says it comes from that domain name and not from Gmail, even though I am writing the mail in Gmail. I also have the choice to start new emails from either my gmail or my domain named email ... all from Gmail. Gmail is pretty awesome to be honest, with all the functions they have added over the years.

Oh well, maybe a Samsung is in my future.

Or LG/HTC, or Nokia, or Blackberry.. in fact the new HTC One is being universally called the best smartphone ever by even the most pro-Apple review sites.

My android (4.1) has all of the stuff that isn't apple exclusive (i.e. a mac.com e-mail) or hardware related. All of what he wants (except the screen and processor) is software. Android offers it.

My phone is going on 3 and does everything (software-wise) that he wants a future Iphone to do.

yea, I did not want to make him feel too bad so only said 2 years.. started out with 4 :)

In many ways .. you and all iPhone users are. Other brands and OS have simply powered past the iPhone and iOS and all Apple is doing and has been doing for at least the last 2 years, is playing catch up.

It is not your fault, but Apple is damn slow in improving its products and coming out with new features. They are also slow as hell in fixing bugs and security problems in their products and tend to blame 3rd party people.

If you look at the difference between say an iPhone 4 and 4s ... a better processor in the 4s and Siri... that is it. Battery time was about the same, screen the same, no 4G still. Also there is no Siri on the 4 because Apple does not allow it.. it can run just fine on the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4s to 5 was a slightly bigger upgrade.. screen and processor and Maps app but the OS remained the same with a few new features... features all other phones have had for years. And lets not forget.. Steve Jobs said that the iPhone would be 3.5 inch forever... so much for that.

I would wager that if Google made an agreement with the app developers, music labels and tv/movie companies that people could get free in the Play Store what they own in the Apple store and iTunes.. then Apple would be in serious trouble. What binds many people to Apple at the moment is the amount they have invested in iTunes and the App store.. not the technology or ease of use. You are a good example. But saying that, there are ways to move over music and they are not that hard and with Googles match service you basically get them for free on Android.. apps you often can contact the dev and ask and some actually do give you it on Android if you bought it on iOS.. plus many apps on Android are free but pay on iOS.. go figure.

Apple goes out of its way to keep its customers by throwing in artificial barriers to prevent people leaving.. by making it **** hard for a non computer geek to move from an Apple eco-system to another. Trying to move contacts from your Apple eco-system over to Google or somewhere else is a freaking nightmare for someone who does not have computer knowledge.. where as moving from Google Android to Apple is easy as snot.

I remember a family member did an iPhone 4 OS upgrade and accidentally discover Siri. By the next upgrade it was gone.

I have 2 family members with Samsung Galaxies who've let me goof around with their phones and I do like the iPhone's user friendliness and graphics quality better. Lets see if the iPhone 6 offers a larger screen and other improvements. Anybody know of what for sure upgrades are coming with the iPhone 6?

Realistic wish list based on understanding of the apple upgrade cycle, along with a few reaches

1. Increase in the processor speed and RAM
2. Some improvement to the camera
3. Additional Siri API's and improvements
4. Updates to the Map application
5. iOS 7 which ends up being a signifiant paint job change on a lot of the built in apps
6. Usability updates to the notification area.

POSSIBLE reaches...

1. Multiple iPhones launched A cheaper model of lower end material for developing countries. A scaled up one that utilizes a similar aspect ratio to other devices already in their lineup, to provide a "large screen phone".

2. NFC addition. Not likely, but IF it's added I see Apple creating their own custom wallet application along side it.

3. Probably "adopting"/"stealing" some jailbroken apps method of toggling radios without going into the settings. Probably in the notification area. Similarly possibly looking at stealing some ideas for improving multitasking slightly.

The bigger thing will be that it'll push the 4s into the "free" category, making Siri even more ubiquitous. This could have problematic consequences as you flood potentially even more users onto a Siri system that has its hicups at times and is still clearly a work in progress. I think Siri's gotta take some leaps this year or else its going to be problematic.

Oh...and the obvious, this is going to be the 5s, not the 6. I'd almost put cash down on it.

They can stay in their holding pattern this year but I think if they don't do something significantly innovative...or take something that has already been innovative RECENTLY and put solid mass market appealing polish and spin on it...then it's going to be tough times ahead. Confidence has been shaken since the death of Jobs and the standard slow increase becomes harder the more and more you have a new android phone splatted onto the market every month.
