The viability of home consoles sort of depends on this announcement. I'm not hopeful, but will be interesting.

Just hoping neither company(Microsoft or Sony) does anything that would limit your ability to play used games, because I will not be buying a console that does that.

Am rather excited to see what they are going to be bringing to the table, Microsoft won this generation by far, my Xbox to PS3 games ratio is rather ridiculous, though to be fair I got the Xbox sooner, but I always just get the Xbox version of a game because the controller is better IMO. Unless it's a racing game because I got a wheel for the PS3. Anyways, hopefully they will announce some pretty cool tech.

Re: PlayStation 4? Sony Press Conference 2013

In the short-term It'd have to be pretty dramatic for me to move on a Playstation 4. I have a fatty 80 GB with hardware emulation support for earlier generations. My budget is limited as is my time, and unless Microsoft screws it up big over the next few years, I will likely side with Microsoft (even though I quite detest its utter reliance on the Xbox live interface for everything-including online video, local video and audio playback, etc.)

While I have from time to time used the console for games, it wasn't the strongest platform for that. It's greatest strength was during a great time of uncertainty in the Blu-ray market, the PS3 actually had dedicated firmware support and was a decent player. Many of the $100+ players are still weak in terms of interface, capability, and, quite frankly, disc support (you shouldn't be having problems watching, for instance, HBO programs on a dedicated disc player, but you do). How insane is it that I would encourage people to buy a Playstation for a dedicated movie player? But I did, and largely still do.

I just bought a Wii U. I want it for the Nintendo only games like zelda,SSB,Mario kart, and those random japanese games that turn out to be awesome, etc. and the unique game-play. My strategy is that I am just going to buy the PC versions of the ps4 and xbox 720 games that I want to play, my laptop is pretty good and will be better than those consoles.

Deep Down(or whatever it will be called) really impressed me, showing off what we can expect from the next-gen. Can't wait for a Bioware game.

Interesting they went with what looks like a modified Bulldozer. In PCs, those take a fair amount of work to get to perform close to their Intel Counterparts. But the power consumption I believe as well as price is what pushed them to that.

That said, the console market is getting demolished by the casual and for the best performance, a desktop will always beat a console. I heard some guy is running TRIPLE SLi with GTX Titans. That's $3,000 in GPU.

I don't think the casual market is demolishing the market for hardcore games, it's just new people are playing games now. The hardcore market is still there, and still very lucrative, and both Microsoft, and Sony will need the hardcore market for their launches.
