I am frickin tired of having to install java every three-five days. Oracle needs to get their **** together and stop releasing crappy updates.

I'm pretty sure you can make it check for updates less frequently.

I'm tired of having to wash my pants every 3-5 days. I could just skip it and go to work with dirty pants. Don't install updates if it bothers you so much.

This is simple cost/benefit analysis. Would you rather bugs be fixed in small batches or in large batches less frequently? Let's say they identify 2 bugs. Waiting until the 2nd is fixed to release the patch leaves you vulnerable to the 1st bug during the interval between when the 1st and 2nd were fixed. This grows as we consider larger batches of bugs. Even if the interval of time is pretty small, the probability of someone suffering as a result of the bug is directly proportional to the number of users.

The usual attempt to get you used to frequent "innocent" updates, occasioanally sprinkled with "new" products, opted to be installed unless you "uncheck" them from the fine print of the user agreement. ;)

i agree. honestly, if it's going to pop up every couple days and it can't just update itself, at least make it one ****ing click rather than a few screens where i have to uncheck junk that i don't want. not to mention that i've had to uninstall the ****ing ask.com toolbar from my parents' computer about ten times now.

The latest update from Java is suppose to fix a serious security hole in version 7. But I actually get more Flash updates than Java.

I have to uninstall ask.com along with every other useless, screen consuming tool bar from the family desktop because the kids aren't careful enough to uncheck those tiny barely noticeable boxes every time they download something or yes, update some program. Software updates suck!

Rather have many updates than few. Look at Apple and its few updates, leaving security holes in its software for years. But yea, those damn tool bar things are freaking annoying!

They might be free updates but they force you to buy something else form Apple.

Really??

I've never bought anything from Apple and I have a program that automatically updates Java...among other programs.
