im not even worried about windows 8 anymore, windows blue is speculated to release this year, and microsoft plans on doing small release macos style now instead of long term stable releases like they did traditionally.
what gets me is that from whats been leaked microsoft has been with the idea of replacing aero as the desktop manager and integrating metro into the classic desktop further.the other idea was to strip the desktop down to windows 2000 ui.all of this subjet to change as microsoft hasnt released major details yet,but still troubling.
further if windows follows macos path and releases amajor os every year, and follows their plans to stop supporting new apps for windows 8 when blue is released, this will effectively kill their business appeal,as most business choose windows over mac because they know their os will be supported for a long time, and most business cant afford to upgrade their osfor entire mainframes on a yearly basis.and it will face the same compatibility problems macos faces between rapidly changing versions.
this in turn would likely boost linux and bsd in the business world,a still windows dominated market.of course if windows follows through with its current ideas as suggested, that shift would take atleast five years,as the last lts windows would be windows 7,in which case most companies would use it until it didnt work anymore before changing it.
