Okay, just installed this game and got it running (Skyrim made my computer cry, so I had to go buy an older game, lol)... but it is afflicted with what is apparently a common audio glitch. Sometimes the NPC's talk, sometimes they don't and you just get subtitles. When they do talk, their mouths moved like crazy, and when their mouths stop moving, the voice magically appears!

The fix that most people swore by involves "changing sound from 7.1 or 5.2 to stereo". Sounds simple! Only I'm an idiot. I don't know the steps necessary to find that area in order to change it. Can't see anything close to that when I use the Control Panel to access Audigy. Don't know if it's buried somewhere in the FO/NW files, or where it would be.

I know it's a simple, stupid 2-click process. If someone can help this tired owl figure out where those 2 clicks should be made, I'd be awesomely grateful, and will reward you with the rodent of your choice!

Bah, never mind. I kept digging through my Control Panel until I found the Speakers config, and discovered I'd previously changed it to stereo. So it's off to Google to see what else could be causing my audio stutter. :(

Glad we could help.

Sounds like you have a conflict with your audio drivers. Make sure that all your drivers are up to date and then you may need to disable one set if you have more than one.

get used to it with new vegas,i played through it in afghanistan on ps3,and the game suffered major bugs then,on a console release.

its a really fun game, but its made with the same engine that the elder scroll games were, which were often well designed but poorly written for mass compatibility, which forcesusers to tweek games to run on common hardware.

New Vegas is naturally buggy game. It uses the same exact engine as FallOut 3, and then it was already a loaded engine. Obsidian added a lot into NV. Easily one of the more glitchy games I've ever played.

You'll get a lot more that audio problems, stuff like popping textures, characters phasing into the enviroment, glichted quests, random severe frame drops and the occasional crash. And this is for every medium, whether it be PC, 360 or PS3. It happens on all three.

I suggest you play with project nevada mod. it adds a lot to the game and fixes many bugs.

I haven't had any of those problems on the PC with, probably, 400+ hours of playtime.

Seems weird for a Bethesda game NOT to glitch.

I've only had really minor stuff such as getting stuck in some of the textures on rare occasion. I've run FONV, FO3, Skyrim, and Oblivion without any significant problems. Morrowind was one of the most stable games I've ever played.

One thing I have noticed is that when Bethesda "recommends" a particular level of graphics processing capability they mean it. I was able to run FO3 on a system with less than minimum requirements but there were all kinds of issues. I stepped up to a little bit better package and things definitely improved. Now I'm running a solidly upper-middle end system and have no problems. That being said, I'm not one of those gamers who look for glitches. Unless something completely screws me up I'm prone to overlook it.

Thanks for all the comments. After days of googling, trying all of the "simple" fix suggestions, I had to bite the bullet on the final "fix" suggestion, which was to perform a complex (for me!!) integration of a patch for another game, Silent Hills, by finding a copy still available online (not easy), then extracting part of the patch into one of FO NV files, and extract the rest of the patch into another FO NV file. I figured if I screwed the game totally, no loss since it was unplayable as is (the biggest issue is that I still have a single-core Pentium... I know, I know...).

Anyway, wonders of wonders it worked!! Dialogue and gunshots are in sync, and so far everything is fine!

Hope everything works fine, I just started the game this past week, and put some good time into it, and I haven't had any glitches so far. Though I am playing it on the 360, and have installed all the patches. Hopefully your PC version works the same!

My biggest worry is worrying about giving ultimate power to someone I don't want to give it too

I've spent over 120 hours in the game, it becomes less glitchy with all the patches and mods and console commands on PC can be used to fix things. It's one of the best games ever, I prefer the Fallout universe over the Elder Scrolls any day.

Agree with this, Skyrim is no doubt a great game, just couldn't get into the world, and universe, can't wait for Fallout 4.

I wish they would remake the first two games and tactics aswell, I would assume Fallout 4 will take place in the Core region again or the South which is one of the only places in America left to be explored in Fallout.

I'm 60+ hours into Fallout New Vegas now, and I love it. It's much better than Fallout 3 was, and I too prefer it to Oblivion/Morrowind. I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of the game, even after all those hours. So much to see, so much to do!! I'm hooked!

Arguable, but indeed a great game nonetheless. I found FO3's DLC much better than NV, but that's me.

Both games that will never leave my possession.

Did you ever play Fallout 1 and Fallout 2? That was back in the day, so might be before your time, but that was the truth birth of the Fallout universe! God I loved those games! Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas have kept surprisingly close to the canon of the originals, with the same unique flavor and ambience that is Fallout!

In those 120 hours I have only had two games and I never completed the first one and now I'm going to finish my current one as NCR.

Fallout 1 yes, but not Fallout 2.

I own them but I could never get into them the gameplay is just too different and they were before my time, so I read every last bit of lore on the Fallout Wikia.

Fallout 1 yes, but not Fallout 2.

My opinion isn't shared by some of the purists, but to me Fallout 2 was twice as good (certainly twice as big!) as Fallout 1. If you feel nostalgic someday, pick up a copy and enjoy!

I really only liked Point Lookout and Anchorage all the others I could do without. I loved the New Vegas DLCs except Dead Money. Old World Blues is by far the best though, you can seduce a light switch if you want and the rest of the DLC is wacky aswell.

FO2 was an awesome game. Did you run into the FO2 related content in FONV yet?

Nostalgia requires I have played it before. Not so much nostalgia as a new experience. The whole franchise was on sale on Steam a few weeks ago, hate myself for not picking it up.
