I saw this on the app store and, on a whim of sentiment, I downloaded it.

I remember playing this back when I was a kid with nothing else to do.

Any bets on how many hours - or minutes - into it I'll be before I go to GameFAQs?

Isn't that the game where you have to ask the computer questions to solve a mystery of some sort?

No. It is a mystery, but a computer isn't involved.

The premise of the game is that you're just some dude and you find yourself on an island. Now you have to discover the mystery of the island and how to get back home.

Because the game doesn't explain much, the mechanics are mostly figured out by trial and error. Which caused some frustration for those who played it when it came out back in the 90's. Back before there were websites with walkthrus and forums to ask for help.

Some of the stuff in it, though, were pretty cool. For example, there's a library of burned books that you can look at to investigate. The books aren't CGI or images - rather, they look like photos of burnt books.

There's also FMVs of actors that can be seen when you put pages into a book - something that isn't done much in video games anymore, in favor of CGI actors.

A real blast from the past this game is.

I still have the disk for that game but it doesn't run on W7. I remember starting to play it but got horribly frustrated with the gizmos in the caves that I could never figure out how to get working.

If you have Win7pro there is a way to run it off the old OS virtually but it has never worked that well with the old software I have tried it with.

Yeah, I've had the same problem. The compatibility mode sounds great but it doesn't work particularly well.

Works perfectly in Windows 8!

The "hunt for the correct pixel"-type games never were my style, but Myst has some very nice music in it.
