How can a company come out with something that isnt needed or wanted then on top of that confuse the hell out of people about what they are coming out with?! :doh

Microsoft is screwing up AGAIN. They are releasing Windows 8 just not for phones and tablets but also for PCs and laptops and in the business sector too. Thing is the program is made to be used best with a touch screen. People are just getting used to using Windows 7 and This operating system is soooo different and NOT made for businesses that its going to be rejected by everyone. Who is going to want to relearn to use use their OS? What company is going to spend time with training their employees to learn the software!? NONE OF THEM! After reading several articles Win8 is much worse on productivity and very confusing to use for anything other than viewing and sending media, like songs photos and videos.
OH! And to make matters worse they are selling.... at the same time something that looks exactly like Win8 but doesnt work with any PC applications. Its called Windows RT. It works only with Windows Apps and Office 2013. Even their own employees are confused!!!!

I like it and it's easy to use.
The metro platform is nice, but you still have desktop.

Don't think I'd call it "suck."

Look man. I think it sucks so, YOU should also think it sucks.

And by the way, its MUCH less functional. I dont want tiles. I dont want stupid Charms either. Where is the Control Panel?
And Im a big supported of Microsoft over Apple but regarding touch screen OS's Ill take Apple over Win8. Why? Because it makes sense. Its an intuitive OS unlike Win8. I never thought I would say that.

I just find it irritating that we are supposed to be going in a direction where we can seemingly only get one task at a time done.

I have waited to upgrade to Windows 8 due to possibly buying a new laptop soon. I don't want to spend $40 if I don't have to. I'm almost wanting to wait to buy new laptops developed after the Windows 8 release that are designed to run on the OS.

You have my sympathies, dude. I mean...you and your ilk are not smarter than a three year old.

Hurry up and get one loaded with Windows 7. They are discounted now. I guarantee in a year Windows 8 computers will be worth the same as computers loaded with Vista.

I don't want to stick on Win 7 forever and do eventually want to upgrade to Win 8. Buying one with Win 7 would require (I believe) a $15 purchase to upgrade to Win 8. Although I'm tempted to buy one of the Lenovo Y series laptops while they are on sale for the next few days, then again they are about to come out with the Y500 which may be worth the wait. I'm looking for a gaming/media/school laptop (I don't care much for low weight slender laptops built for portability).

Also, if anyone has recommendations please PM me, I would greatly appreciate advice and I tend to do tons of research (weeks or more) before actually buying expensive items.

I can post a video of an old man trying to use Windows 8 without success. I'm guessing he's smarter than a 3 year old.

Ummm...

I'm guessing he's not.

My advice is dont get Windows 8. Its a HUGE dowgrade from Windows 7. Its meant to be run on a touchscreen phone or tablet. Unless youre getting one of those stay FAR away from Win8.

I call bullcrap.

That kid was coached.

LOL!!!

The kid was prompted...not coached. He knew what he was doing.

In regard to those videos...

I watched the first three minutes of the first one. I must tell you that he was using the beta version of Win8. What you'll buy now is quite a bit different.

In that second video...give me a break. The old man didn't even know what Windows Explorer was. Anyway, he's using the beta as well.

You know, a long time ago I worked for a company as an instructor. I had to teach new employees how to use the company's software to do their jobs. This old guy reminds me of some of the people I had to deal with. No matter how I explained things...or walked them through the software...they just couldn't get it. This old man's son should have just told him about that neat little "Windows Key" on his keyboard instead of bugging the old guy.

Windows 8 is so easy even a three year old can do it.

It's actually meant to be run on a tablet, a laptop or a desktop. Windows Phone 8 will be meant to be run on a phone.

Furthermore, you don't lose any of the functions of Windows 7...except Aero.

Tell me, TGM, have you actually used Windows 8?

You people still use Windows, huh? Where do you get that patience and persistiveness from? You're just awesome.
Sincerely.
A simple minded Mac user

I jumped away from the Mac platform after I had a bad experience with the construction of their consumer-class notebooks. That being said, I still love OS X, I just think Apple's hardware conceptualizations mostly suck now (no optical drive, cloud storage, and so forth).

Yes I have. In my first thread post I said i used it at Best Buy with the "help" of one of the employees that was trained on it. Windows 8 is utter trash in every way compared to Windows 7. It makes simple tasks much more difficult. Try and change firewall setting? You cant. Try and get full information on a list of files? Nope. Try and get rid of Metro? Cant. It seems like its designed for preteens that want to share photos, music, get on Facebook and other types of media and really have no want nor need for any serious computing. The dumbing down from XP to Win7 was bad enough but I understand they wanted more Mac users. But the transition from Win7 to Win8 is comparable to driving a car to now driving one of those plastic kid cars.

I've only had desktops but I admit I wouldn't like a "no disc drive" configuration.

I LOVE my 27" Imac and it loves me. The cats also.

Well, aside from the Mac Pro (in need of a revision itself), all of their current products are absent an optical drive. The iMac, in the effort to be sexy, has removed the drive. The consumer would be dependent upon external storage mechanisms and the cloud.

That employee must not have been trained very well. It's quite easy to change firewall settings. You don't have to use the Modern UI if you don't want to. But...the Modern UI is quite enjoyable in it's own right.

Hey...you go ahead and stay with XP if that makes you feel comfortable. But a little heads up: If you can't manage to keep up with advancements...like touch interfaces, speech interfaces or motion interfaces...you'll soon go the way of the dinosaurs.

Youre assuming that people will adopt the OS. And what you see as an 'advancement' I see as a lump of crap. To be fair, I will attempt to learn more on how to use the OS but Ill will try using it on a mouse, not a touch screen. I think 3% of PC users now have touch screens so its not fair to use anything other than a mouse. Actually thats another thing.... touch screens. I read about people not using them much as they thought and use the mouse most of the time. I guess I can see that on a desktop configuration.
In the long run I just dont see why people would want to learn a totally different OS to acomplish what they are doing now on a OS that has nothing wrong with it and functions more intuitively.
