The only way I am getting widows 8 is if it comes with what ever new pc I decided to buy in the future. The way I look it is you wouldn't take the engine out of a VW Bug and stick it into a Ford F150 truck.I regard windows OS the same way seeing how the usual trend is that a new OS will always have more hardware requirements than the previous OS.

errrr... Windows 8 has the same requirements as Windows 7, which has the same requirements as Window Vista. Hell Windows 7 without AERO has the same requirements as Windows XP!

Plus from all the reports out there, Windows 8 is a considerable under the hood improvement in performance on Windows 7.

Idk I'm not convinced that MS business model for 8 will work.

from past experience i like to only buy every other windows version.windows me was junk,2k was good,95 was great for its day,98 sucked for its day,xp owned, vista sucked in early release but was fixed in later patches, but had such a bad rep people didnt want it anyways.

windows seven was literally windows vista further improved with the name changed to fool those who hated vista so much from its bad release.though one large improvement between 7 and vista is that 7 doesnt keep processes running like vista and xp,instead it has them off until a program needs it,which increased security stabily and decreased process load.i really couldnt figure out why they though vista needed 100 processes youll never use running eating up half your ram and processor to do nothing.

i havent tried windows 8 but if its anything like windows old track record,it will be plagued with problems fromthe start since it succeeded a succesful stable os

windows 8 will never hold a candle to its old predecessors

Same requirements doesn't mean they consume the same resources.

Nope, but from the Windows 8 I have run... it consumes LESS resources than Windows 7.

Well that is the pro version.... how about the Home version :)

They were the same price with win7...not like it used to be home has actually more in it than pro

Why I

What it comes down to is this: Windows 8 is a tax on your brain. That dealing with it, day in, day out adds to your world being slightly worse in a dozen different but slightly irritating ways.
This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it is an exhausting list of reasons why I’ll never touch Windows 8 again. I'm not alone: game developers worldwide have declared Windows 8 a catastrophe.

To give you an example of why he hates it:

The Metro interface is Windows 8. The desktop that you’re used to is also there, but it’s built as a separate app. Think of it this way: Metro is the shell. The desktop is an app within that shell. If you want to start Steam, you’ll want to launch the Desktop app, and then launch Steam.

His other big, recurring complaint. Everything defaults to full screen. All the time. Every time. Many apps can be fullscreeen, or minimized, and that's it.

Luckily as a microsoft partner I get it as soon as it goes gold... that being said my primary desktop will remain win7 ultimate for some time.

I may drop it on a tablet PC to take advantage of the touchsreen functionality, but I personally dont want to be on the bleeding edge of windows 6.2

I subscribe to a newsletter for several years now, its called win secrets...it used to be called LangaList it was much better as langalist and Fred langa still writes for winsecrets who he sold out too a couple of years ago.

Theyve done several reviews on 8 and they havent been to flattering...what redress posted they have said the same thing about the full screen and there are things your really have to go searching for to find....they made win 8 with touchscreen in mind for tablets and mobile devices...touchscreen is no good for desktops imo but desktops are dieing at least thats what the experts tell us..
I was told that to upgrade to win8 for the 15 bucks you have to download it direct and install it ?? I dont think the guy was right about that...at least im hoping hes not

And he is a moron then. Pin it to the launch bar or the desktop. You dont need to use the metro interface lol. But saying that, in my opinion the metro interface is far superior to pinning to desktop or launch bar.

Err everything has always defaulted to full screen. All games do that for example. Want windowed mode, then you have to go into preferences to select it.

You have to understand one thing... most of these "reviewers" do their reviews on the shiny expensive Macs and are Microsoft haters from day one. If you look at their Apple reviews, I would wager they are glorifying and way over the top skipping all the faults and problems with the products. Only time I ever take note of a reviewer is when I know he is an Apple fanboy and he actually says something positive of another product and calls it better than Apple or at least almost goes the way to do so.

Windows 8 is new, and different. For me the metro interface is a minor part of the whole system. The integration of your contacts with facebook, twitter and so on is great. The productivity boost you get with the interface and chances can be significant if you are willing to learn how to best use the interface. But most importantly Windows 8 uses less ram and resources than Windows 7, starts faster and shuts down faster. Also the reworked file explorer is brilliant for those of us who have a lot of files. And I remember when Windows XP came out and all the complaints about the start menu.. they sound awfully a lot like what they sound today about Metro.

You will never get the power and capacity of a desktop in any other device, they will always be faster, cheaper, and more upgradable than any portable format.

I am seriously thinking of getting a windows 8 slate when they come out.

at $200, its worth trying.

We have 6 android devices in the house these days, time for a new toy.

I love my desktop and they will have to pry it off me...and how would PC gamers game without a desktop...can you imagine playing a mmo on your ipad..or kindle :)

Theyre hoping everyone thinks like that...and many will....I have a cellphone that I pay a ridiculous amount of money for thats a nightmare for me to try and understand many conversations with my bad ears...so I use it mostly for texting my daughters son and grandkids and I pay way to much...which is going to change in october when the contract runs out.

yeah, they would have to roll back graphics at least 5 years, if desktops went away.

If desktops went away I would give up gaming and go back to being a pinball wizard...

They wont, they may not be the primary market driver, but there will always be the need for the desktop form factor, because of the server market, and for high performance computing and gaming.

Not to mention tablets are **** to work on... productivity would drop dramatically without a good old fashioned dekstop!

So some one who works designing things on a computer is a moron about computers, as are many others in the game design community, but you know better? Yeah, I believe that....
