Secret World Not to shabby

That's odd, in a way...

I have a 470 GTX in my comp, no water cooling whatsoever, and I've been playing TSW on what I think are max graphics settings.

I also have a Gigabyte 470gt heavy durable superclocked and it shot right up to 108C and shutdown the game..
I dont get why....I have TONS of cooling all the cores on my cpu stay at low 30C lots of case fans...I have all the latest and greatest drivers and my evga 570 is not overclocked one bit.
The cooler I bought would allow for overclocking..and it fits new generation nvidia cards also...so if I bought a new card in the future it would fit...I havent overclocked anything in a long time...

Ok, I've been running TSW at 1920 x 1280 with all settings maxed out, past ultra setting standards...

My system is running Win 7 Pro, a I5 2500k CPU, GTX 470 graphics card, 16GB of RAM... HD's are I think 7200RPM drives.
My case has one quite large top fan, then more normal-sized ones 2 front 1 rear, 1 side, and then the PSU fan.
No liquid cooling.
There's a fan on the CPU cooler unit as well...my understanding is that I could in theory OC my CPU easily to 4Ghz...but I have no real need for that so I haven't.

The only time I have any issues with the game at all is when I use the in game browser too much - the game crashes. No overheating whatsoever thus far. But then my system has always been quite stable in my experience.

It seems odd that your system should react so badly to the game...

I have a very similar system and I too played on max during beta. Though it may be different for launch.

Ok I found my problem finally...EVGA precision which is evga monitoring software which I never used...was factory set to run the vid fan at 40%...I boosted that to 85% and it stays at 50-54 cc now...well I already ordered the cooler....so im going to put it on and take a forray into overclocking the card...I havent done that for quite awhile...but everyone with this cooler says they get 20% gains with no probs...Ill go 15 see what happens...and this cooler will fit all the 600 series nvidias if I upgrade...so Ill have it anyway

errr I was wrong...damn card shot up to 89c...Im not getting why, the cooling fan on this evga is small...and its running at a constant 85% and the heat still spikes way to high and shuts down the video.....well cooler is coming

Mayhaps something is wrong with the card itself?

It just seems odd that it would get so hot when I have no issues with the previous gen card.

Im with ya...but it runs fine, I play wow with no problem whatsover....I am playing on high..direct x 11....to give you an example the Ultra Durable 470GTX gigabyte I have has 3 large fans on it...the evga 570 has one small fan...yet both video cards get overheated playing TSW....its both cards not just one...the 470 shot to 108CC...
Im telling ya I have water cooled processor stays at 30c....I have several 120 mm fans going top bottom back and front...I have the entire SIDE off the case in an air conditioned room.
I get no artifacts with the card at all...I think its a cooling prob...if this cooler doesnt fix it...then the card will have to go back to evga it has a lifetime warranty...

Remove the stock cooling assembly and reapply some better paste. Look online and get some new pad material too, because on the mem chips and VRM's they usually have pad because the space is wider to the heat sink.

Usually the factory sucks at this. Look at Mac Books, and even the new Ivy Bridge. Its a cheap and easy test. Definitely exercise your warranty! But I would do that before you try a better heat sink. A better heat sink should allow you to overclock it more, not run it at default.

My 6990m, in a laptop, is running at 88C. No way you should be that hot.

Seems to be alot of people ru nning hot in TSW,,,..some think its a memory leak in the game....funcom needs to get working and they need to start COMMUNICATING better...damn you would think by now these game companies would have learned from all the others before them...if you got something screwed up TELL US were adults we can handle it...but to stay silent only makes it much worse...

Ive been playing around...trying to see whats what...I put in a gigabyte 470 GTX overclock and it instantly soared in the game to 108 C UNREAL...I took that card out...
I put my 570 in another pci e slot...I checked the voltage on my power supply which is 1000 watts and the voltage is rock steady.....So I put the vid card fan to 100% and took the side off the case, at rest it sat a 39c....I put the side back on the case with the side fan disconnected...it sat at 36...turned the side fan on and it dropped to 33 and stayed there....running the card fan at 100% can be good long term....later ill go in the game and see what it goes up to under duresss....I played wow for 20 minutes and the card never went over 50C....so its TSW for sure

WoW is a rather simple game graphically. Not all games are the same. Many games on release put a heavy load on your GPU. Its not a bad thing, its using everything you are paying for.

Ok this is direct from EVGA tech support...I was told to forget the old guidelines for Video Card high temperatures....my video card is not overheating until it reachs 98c they said anything under that dont worry about it....my card occaisionally shoots up over a 100c in TSW...I am crashing alot less...
EVGA has a bios update and I flashed it and it allows my fan to run at high speed on the gpu,,,the cooler will be in by friday that ends the prob....I like this game more and more aberration

Your card has a thermal cut off of around 105C I believe. At that point it will actually shut itself down. On most expensive silicon these days, its hard to destroy it accidentally. You have to do it intentionally, or its another component that fails.

I still wouldn't be comfortable with that high of a temp, except on a laptop.

Hows the new cooler?

I continue to be a huge fan so far.

Heh put the cooler on and next day I thought the Power supply went...pc wouldnt turn on...I had a 900 watt ps so I exchanged it...same thing...process of elimination it has to be the mobo...and its not a cheapo...its an asus sabertooth A58.....So ive been without a puter almost two weeks...I have everything ordered and its already here, im waiting on two more pieces and ill slap this new puter together...

I miss the game :(....I should be back in tues
Corsair Carbide 500R case
Ivy Bridge 3770k
Asus Sabertooth Z77
16 gig Corsair vengence 1600 dual channel
EVGA 670gtx OC...the benchmarks tween 670 and 680 are so minimal not worth the 125.00 differnce
The rest of the stuff....Power supply, HD....

I should have it all monday and slap it together tues...

Nice gear. I am really surprised the Sabertooth of all boards took a ****. I had a R2E literally catch fire at the PCI-e slot my sound card was plugged into. Watercooled, so you would think a leak caused it... nope, lint.

I can't bring myself to upgrade from my i7 920 and GTX285's...
