So who's paying attention? Who's watching the press conferences? What's your favorite games?

So far my standouts are Beyond:Two Souls, Assassins Creed 3, and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Also the new Tomb Raider looks good, can't wait to see more from The Last of Us. Need to start saving up now

i wanna see some of this Wii U stuff.

So I used to actually do a website, and went to 5 different E3s. Been to all the conferences, etc. To me, this year seems to mirror E3 2004; both SOny and Microsoft had solid showings but the gamers attention was really on Nintendo and their new hardware (DS a tthe time) this time around it is of course the WiiU. When you look at the full picture though, they all do very well.

This year, Sony and MS by spoiled gamers could be described as "meh" but if you had this **** 3 years ago you would be in heaven. This is Sony and MS's swan songs for their current gen until PS4 and Xbox 3. Here are my thoughts so far:

Microsoft:
-Halo 4 looks incredible
-Xbox glass a potential Wii U gamepad killer
-Forza Horizon looks sharp
-good fleshing out of Kinect, like IE on there also, as well as all the extra media stuff like Nickelodeon.
-Incredibly solid 3rd party support

Sony:
-Still taking the "lets see what sticks" method they have had to do the past few years
-BEYOND looks incredible
-Last of Us looks great

Nintendo:
-Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh for now

Also Watch Dogs from UbiSoft looks NUUTSS!

I haven't been excited by a damn thing this year.

The opening of the Halo 4 debut gameplay was interesting, that live action stuff was awesome...

But other than that, I've have never seen a more skeleton E3 in many years and I think it speaks to a bigger problem.

The gaming compaies aren't stupid, they know the economy is going to crash, they're not taking bold risks this year with new products and I believe having followed E3 for a long time, it really shows this year.

Halo 4 is just trying to milk the cow.

Don't get me wrong, it'll be a solid shooter and I'm a huge Halo fan but I can tell you right now It'll be the first FPS Halo I will only rent and not buy, it looks no different from it's predocessors, it brings nothing new to the table and it looks like it's going to completely destroy the Halo Cannon and Storyline I've come to love.

I mean come on!

I understand if they were going to do a story about the Master Chief running solo against a new Alien race on his own, but to throw a Star Trek Voyager type Story into the middle of a new world where the covenant also are just shows that it will be one of the biggest cow milking sessions in VG history.

If I were people, I would start selling their Apple shares because they will soon tank. The innovation coming out for Windows 8 is amazing to say the least. Microsoft has really upped its game this year.

I am already saving up for a touch screen ultrabook muhhaa!

How did you come to this conclusion? This has been a damn good E3 so far, it is a tad sequel heavy but that is to be expected at the end of a console cycle, but there are some amazing new IP's such as Beyond, and The Last of Us(I can see myself playing my PS3 much more than I do right now), and how can you not be excited to the new kid on the block in South Park?

I'm all over the WiiU when it comes to this conference, but I have to say I like the SmartGlass (is that what it's called?). From a multi-media perspective it has an endless breadth of potential, but from a gaming focussed position it has less than the WiiU. It's certainly a less risky product for both company and for the paying consumer than its competitor.

The games? Well, unless it's an established franchise I tend not to get excited about anything until I have given something a go myself. Maybe I'm part of the problem, but I've been tricked by the sycophantic gaming media hailing the next big thing far too many times.

A little bit sequel heavy?

My god man, a halo "sequel" if you can even laughingly call it that.

God of War Ascension, Call of Duty Black ops 2, Medal of Honor Warfighter this new Gears of War Judgement just to name a few... Christ have we been spoon fed crap for so long that we think this is actually any good? Same with mainstream movies, music... it's all either re-used, recycled, remade or generic crap.

Do you know whats going to be new about any of these games?

**** all.

They're gonna be the exact same ****ing games as their predocessors with a few new features, graphics update and new maps. Nothing but a glorified expansion.

Oh and a good South Park game, I'll believe it when I see it, there has never been a good South Park game. If it's good, believe me I'll buy it full price, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Star wars 1313 game play stood out to me but really, I just see it as another idiotic recycled idea, it's Star Wars force Unleashed re-tooled for Bounty Hunting.

I'm sorry I just think there's little original, ground breaking stuff to get excited about this year, don't get me wrong every game I've talked about here will be a solid, fun game to play but it's nothing new.

I'm sick and tired of this generic crap we keep being fed.

I want a ****ing Guns n Roses to come out, I want a Halo to come out, I want a GTA3, I want a Star Wars to come out.

And I don't mean literally those things, but in the sense of how ground breaking and original they were, we're just not getting that.

The last game that made me feel that was Portal and Portal 2.

There is nothing that has even come close in the last few years that can compare to such a simple, yet incredibly original and fantastic concept as those games were.

Gosh your a cynic

First off all those games are of high quality, and the existence of those games does not make the new IP's coming out any less impressive. Like I said Beyond looks awesome, The Last of Us looks awesome, and the new South Park game is being made by Obsidian, it looks like you are in an episode, and Matt Stone, and Trey Parker are heavily involved in the games development, and are writing the story. You obviously know nothing about it so complaining is a bit premature eh?

The games industry is strong, and just because it's a sequel doesn't mean that it isn't a good innovative game. Look at Assassins Creed 3, simply amazing, and has had a strong story across 4 games.

Seems to me like you just want to find something to complain about.

I saw the trailer, showed no gameplay therefore its worthless to me. :)

That quick huh?

No wonder my people rebelled ;)

But yeah here's the trailer for the South Park Game.

"Jews can't be saviors"...I am probably going to hell for laughing so hard at that.

I got the impression there was gameplay in the Southpark trailer. I mean, assuming current consoles can handle those compliacted animation techniques. :)

Disappointing E3 all round in summary,

This years E3 was all about the graphics tech demos, and PC.

The UE4 demo (only bother with the first five-and-a-bit minutes unless you're interested in game development) was very impressive, the Luminous engine equally so.

Star wars 1313 looks gorgeous if formulaic, Beyond looks like a more action-heavy version of the beautiful Heavy Rain, The Last Of Us looks impressive, more so when you learn that none of it was scripted events, and Watch_Dogs blew me away, both with graphics and general world-buildery. Even Far Cry 3 (NSFW) looks suitably insane.

Still waiting for HL3 though...

Just a note: UE4 is both a great tool for developers, but is also something that any one will be able to play with. UE is powerful, but easy enough any one who wants to put a little time into it can learn. There are some simply great videos out to walk you through learning how to use it.
