I have only limited understanding of hacking, but what I do know indicates that a portion (majority?) of hackers don't actually know how to "hack" as it were, but rather simply run/operate a program/code string (same thing?) that someone else (an actual hacker?) created for a specific purpose.Yep, they won't admit it. It defies reason why, of all the attacks hackers could make by compromising my PC, they would go after my Blizzard acct. I think the prob is on their end. No keyloggers, no compromised email, I am the only one who knows my acct info. I argued w/ them. They insisted "we have never had a security breach... blah blah blah". Well neither have I, so where does that leave us? Their refusal to acknowledge the issue might be them leads me to distrust the security of my private info that they hold.

The description of the issue you've given (gold vanished from your Blizzard acct.) sounds like either:
Someone found a hole in blizzard's code (not a shocking thing, really) that allowed them to siphon your gold into their acct, or cause it to vanish.
A hole in Blizzards code let your gold leak out into nothingness.
Now, if the person who found this hole is passing around the trick to exploiting it, that may explain the rumors and such.
Have a friend who had his hacked.. and frankly we both are a bit perplexed on how one earth it happened and why. Only his gold was missing, so no problem, but how it was done is a puzzle. No keyloggers.. hell the computer was practically brand new, and he was the only one with the account info.
Interesting.the hack actually logs into accounts, and uses a bot to sell all gear and then take all the gold and hand it to another bot which is a mule.the same couple of names keep appearing on peoples recently played or friends list right after, and some people who had them on friends entered their games while they were hacking someones account and captured it on video and sent it to blizzard and youtube.blizzard hasnt even bothered banning a single one of those bot accounts yet.
Interesting.
I created a new battle.net acct for Diablo 3...and so far I've only played 1 multiplayer game with another player, who I know well IRL - the rest has been exclusively single-player.
From the sounds of it, that makes any danger to my acct. slight.
I'll have to do that when I get home.its being done by a botso just the bot always logs in your char thats already open,so create a lvl 1 char and switch to hum before logging off every time, most you would lose is gold, and unless you are in high end inferno most your gold could be required quick, but high lvl gear cant.
i have never been hacked yet,but one thing i noticed is that the hackers are only touching diablo 3 accounts, not any other games tied to the account, which leads me to believe that they have a way to access anyones account without a password and are choosing at random.
